Nancy Pelosi says Republicans will starve seniors

uhm if there were no "death panels" why then did Obama have to remove them?

Report: 'Death panel' provision out of Obama Medicare policy - The Hill's Healthwatch

In November, the Medicare agency issued a massive regulation setting physician rates for thousands of services, including new annual wellness examinations. The New York Times first reported in late December that the wellness examinations included voluntary end-of-life counseling.

He found another way to get what he wanted. That was in your own source. Saying that optional end of life counciling is a "death panel" is one of the most disingenuous arguments ever and you know that Rev. Hopefully you're just trying to push buttons and don't believe this crap.

You mean those death panels are still in there?

All the vitrolic language coming from the (D) side of the political house is truely overwhelming. The question is: Will the American people believe it like they did in 1995, or, have the circumstances changed such that, more people are willing to accept that the same government which is demagoguing the Paul Ryan's proposal are actually the problem, and are not part of the solution.

I'm hoping that a majority of people see these cuts (and others) are a serious act in trying to address a serious problem which is nasot going away because Pelosi's saying Grandma's going to starve, or because Wasserman-Schultz is claiming our children will be starving in the streets. A little pain now, or more pain later.

Nobody should have to die to balance our budget.

one of the hard realities of governing is that no matter what you choose, it will often be easy to draw a line from your choice to the death of others. want to balance the budget? somewhere some system or people who have become dependent upon the deficit spending will pay the price. don't balance the budget in order to help those people? now you are screwing others, and there will be deaths on the margins from that, too.

I think both parties are actually quite bold and finally bringing a fact out into the open that we all know is true but no one dares admit, "you're too old grandma you need to die already."

I cant wait till you get there and someone says pull the plug on the old b***t**d lol

Nobody should have to die to balance our budget.

Especially when ryan wants to give ANOTHER tax cut to the rich and corporations...I dont think his plan will pass the smell test

Common sense says democrats and republicans that have spent us into a 14+ trillion dollar debt and annual deficits of over a trillion dollars with no end in sight will ultimately bankrupt the country and starve everyone.

^^^ Pull out the Democrat playbook and accuse Republicans are starving children. No doubt the Republicans are causing a Holocaust. See the similarity?

Nancy Pelosi and Democrats demogoguing the issue....is anyone surprised?

Good thing head start is getting the ax, since it's just a bloviated babysitting program.

I would never say that...I would say its the family's job to say that...or to keep paying to keep her alive. Because believe it or not...we cant continue to sustain federal spending. Its all well and good now as long as we can continue to push the debt onto other generations. But I can tell ya this...someones grandkids are gonna be PISSED.

The propose cuts would lower the the number of meals delivered about it's not going to cause a mass starvation of the Senior Population.

No, it won't. It will, however, cause starvation amongst the homebound seniors who no longer have meals delivered to them.

Exactly. Its a pain now or pain later sort of thing.

no, it won't. it will cause them to begin paying $3 for their meals.

Threads like this always make me feel really bad. It's terrible to know that people want you to die just because you've lived for 65 years. It hurts that people feel your life is not worth anything, that you are not worth anything just because of your age.

People who are on medicare and social security have paid for more than half a century into the system, and now are being told that they aren't entitled to the medical care they paid for, not entitled to the monthly pittance they have paid for, and are basically being called stupid and greedy if they expect what they were promised. Many people who hold the view that seniors aren't entitled to $12,000 a year in SS payments are the same people who defend public employee pensions of $70,000+ a year... also on the taxpayer dollar.

I'm so sorry to have intruded on society by not dying on my 65th birthday. I'll try to remedy that so my worthless life doesn't use any more resources that rightfully belong to the younger generations.

If they have two meals a day, that will cost them over $2,000 per year, or more than 17% of their annual SS income. The remaining $10,000 is all that's left to pay rent, utilities, and other bills. That's a third of the poverty level in this country. These are frail, sick people who are unable to even leave their homes. It would be kinder to euthanize them than to slowly take away their food, their income, their medical care until they die on a sidewalk somewhere.

I wonder how many people have really stopped and looked at just how insane this situation is. Imagine if this was your family budget. You make 100k a year but spend 130k. So...you carry 30k of credit card debt into the next year where you make 110k...but spend 150k. No big deal...you just add the 40k onto the 30k...so now you are in debt 70k.And the next year...awesome...you make 150k, but you spent 170k. So you add another 20k onto the debt pile...90k in debt...no big deal...and then one day it hits you...crap...my debt payments alone are more than I can I make. And then the girl scouts come and you want to support them...so...what the hell...you spend another 40$ you dont have...because you make good money...you should be able to help out. And then there is Aunt Susies lambego...you want to help her out...and after all you make lots of money. Then Uncle Steve needs a new kidney...and well..come on...are ya gonna let him DIE? Well...are ya? And your grandma has foot fungus...hell...buy her a hover-round...its only money...and you HAVE to pay for your kids college...right? I mean...its your responsibility to take care of them. and you dont want to be heartless so for 3.55 a day...just the price of a cup of coffee really you sponsor some little kid in Zumgawa. And then your bank calls and says how are you going to pay off all this crap? And so you just...well...tell him to stick it to your kids...

Private citizens have great wealth. The federal government is broke as hell. And it isnt getting any better. And nancy Pelosi's scare tactics arent going to change anyones reality.

This is America?

Pelosi's demogaugary play is as old as Lambo Field.

Goood lord. Drama much? Please I HOPE this was tongue in cheek. No one is suggesting anyone should DIE. The message that has been LOST is that people ought to be squirreling away nuts for their future and take care of themselves. Instead many people have no savings, no retirement plan and their 'big idea' to survive til they die is collect social security and live off medicare.

Where did people get the idea that was supposed to equate to prosperous retirement? YES people have been paying into supplemental aid programs like SS and medicare much of their lives. now have much have they done to actually provide for THEMSELVES? Is their home paid off? did they take care of their physical health so they arent so fat they have to have a scooter to get their ass to the banquet line? Are they on oxygen AND still smoking? And SURE some have health problems they had no control over...THOSE are the ones we should be able to provide support for. Unfortunately we CANT help them anyomore because we are invested in providing 'free' scooters to everyone else. Does the future look bleak? hell yes...for EVERYONE...because we have spent ourselves into a massive freqin hole.

I would love to see a politician stand up and say Look ya frekin moron...knock yer crap off...and all of you people that are so stupid you believe her are probably too stupid to be voting in the first place. Instead of calling her "my esteemed colleague" they ought to say "lookie here you corrupt dishonest crap-weasel..."

Politics etc aside, there are some seniors who truly depend on these meal programs.
My wife was a director at a senior center for a bit. Some of the people that they served got their only meals from some of these programs. They're are some very old folks who live out away from town with no one to take care of them. They're too old to drive, let alone get a job or go back to work. Some of them live in houses built decades ago w/o running water or electricity.

There're sad and needy senior folks out there who happen to depend on these sorts of programs to eat.

Just a statement of facts, not a judgement about what should be done.

Perhaps not a "mass starvation." But there are indeed some people who're in very vulnerable situations. Some people may well starve without the assistance that comes from some of these sorts of programs.

“In one of the bills before us, six million seniors are deprived of meals -- homebound seniors are deprived of meals. People ask us to find our common ground, the middle ground. Is middle ground three million seniors not receiving meals? I don't think so. We've got to take this conversation from a debate about numbers and dollar figures and finding middle ground there to the higher ground of national values. I don't think the American people want any one of those six million people to lose their meals or the children who are being thrown off of Head Start and the rest of it.” — Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi¹

Demagogue? Speak the truth more like!

“I can't help but think about the fact that in these same budgets, we are talking about, they give tens of billions of dollars in subsidies to Big Oil to drill when they are making a trillion dollars over 10 years in profits, that we are giving tax breaks to companies to send jobs overseas. We're doing that as we say to seniors, homebound seniors: ‘You no longer will have food coming to you in your homes.’” — Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi²

Right on!

no, it won't. it will cause them to begin paying $3 for their meals.

Yep homebound seniors with 500 month social security checks MUST pay 3.00 bucks just to eat so the rich and the corps can get another ryan tax cut...seems reasonable to me. They need MOAR and MOAR

Dont you see the hypocrisy in this, especially since they are paying less taxs then they have for decades.

Wow. Just... wow. So you think the people who live on SS alone, $12,000 a year, are stupid fat asses whose medical problems are their own damned fault. You accuse me of drama while you CAPITALIZE every other WORD and villify EVERYONE over the age of 65 because they... what? Because they are receiving $12,000 a year in social security, a program that frankly would be in the black if government hadn't stolen from it over the years. Because they are entitled to medicare, which they have also paid for their entire working lives.

You think you could survive on $12,000 a year, bucko? Fat chance. Nearly all seniors have supplementary income from pensions (usually pretty small, unless one has a cushy public union pension at 80% of their salary) and drawdowns from their 401k's and IRA's. You think we're stupid? Of course those of us fortunate enough to have decent jobs have put away as much as possible to support ourselves during retirement. Prosperous retirement? Are you crazy? Most of us clip coupons and count pennies, because those 401k's and IRA's are only going to last so long, y'know?

There are a lot of old folks who didn't have a cushy life, who lived in poverty working minimum wage jobs, or who had their savings wiped out by catastrophic medical expenses in their families. The people who are getting these meals are frail, sick old people, people living alone without families to care for them and no source of income beyond their social security. THAT'S who we're talking about, MR. DRAMA QUEEN. And where in hell do you get this "live off medicare" crap? Are you under the illusion that medicare sends seniors monthly checks? Medicare is just medical insurance. It pays 80% (of what medicare wants to pay, not what is actually charged) of "allowable" services directly to doctors and/or hospitals. Maybe you misspoke, and meant that seniors are greedy enough to expect medicare to actually help provide medical services to keep them alive. Well, yes. Since private insurance companies automatically stop insuring people when they reach 65, we greedy seniors actually expect medicare to do what it promised to do, what we paid for it to do because otherwise, we'd be completely without medical benefits. Completely.

We're such drama queens.
