Death Threats Against Sarah Palin at 'Unprecedented Level,' Aides Say
By CLAIRE SHIPMAN and HUMA KHAN
Jan. 12, 2010
ABC News

An aide close to Sarah Palin says death threats and security threats have increased to an unprecedented level since the shooting in Arizona, and the former Alaska governor's team has been talking to security professionals.

Since the shooting in Tucson, Palin has taken much heat for her "crosshairs" map that targeted 20 congressional Democrats in the 2010 mid-term election, including that of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, who was the main target of Saturday's attack.

Friends say Palin, a possible 2012 contender, was galled as suggestions of her role in the tragedy have swirled.

Wow, you'd think that words might have power and influence if you believe this.

Who knew? Seriously, who would've thought that words might create an atmosphere that supports threats of violence? Gosh, I'd never considered this.

Shocking.

Grim, you are making an excellent case for extremist conservatives to have their mouths duct taped... along with the extremist liberals. I suppose that you should really look up the word irony in the dictionary.

Palin has elicited the result she so carefully crafted and hoped for. She is a
P.T. Barnum figure of shameless self promotion and thinks nothing of soiling a day of national mourning with her own extremist agenda.

No, I think you're very, very mistaken...

What I just did, was demonstrate the difference between political rhetoric that actually does inspire violence (the democrats blaming Palin and the Tea Parties for 6 innocent people being murdered), and political rhetoric that doesn't inspire actual violence (what Palin and the Tea Parties have done and said over the last 2 years)

One case I'm absolutely positive I'm making, is that when the left goes around shooting their mouths off and making unfounded, ridiculous accusations just to score cheap political points, like they did this past weekend when they blamed Sarah Palin and the Tea Party for the Tucson tragedy, their psycho sheep will respond with the unhinged anger and hatred they have become so synonymous for.

The point is, the liberals political lies have stirred up real, live, actual hatred, that some have already started acting upon... While everything that Palin and the right has said and done, hasn't been responsible for squat!

After Palin introduced the map with the sniper's scope and the words "We've diagnosed the problem, help us prescribe the solution" Gifford's complaints fell on deaf ears -- even after she received death threats and had her office vandalized. Palin continued with her disgusting rhetoric.

If Palin is now receiving death threats, herself, I would say that it is a case of the chickens coming home to roost.

No YOU are very mistaken. The idiotic militant rhetoric of the right has stirred up enough anger and hatred over the past several years that easily outdoes much of what the left has done. All one has to do is read DP to see that. When the right goes around shooting their mouths off, calling those on the left names, they bring some of the crap on themselves. YOUR failure is your inablity to see that if the idiots on BOTH sides would just shut up, things would be a whole lot better.

Could you post the death count for me please?

Then list for me, the thousands and thousands of random acts of violence that have been directly attributed to anything that Sarah Palin or the Tea Partys have done or said?

All you people are doing, is digging that hole that your irresponsible, reprehensible behavior dug, even deeper... Why don't you people cut your losses and run, while you still have a pot to piss in.

Please quote anywhere that I made any of these claims. Your strawmen arguments constantly make you look foolish, Grim. I would suggest you stop making them.

You guys have already shown how irresponsible and idiotic behavior harms and divides the country. I'd suggest that you all cut your losses and run, but you'd have to admit that you were part of the problem first, and the denial with extreme conservatives is so strong that will never happen.

I deny that.

Because Michelle Malkin is an unbiased source.

The call is for EVERYONE to tone down the rhetoric. But one of the worst perpetrators of condescending rhetoric is quoted here in another attempt to score political points in this pathetic game.
Forget the source, look at the content. Everything is backed up.

Exactly. She's another idiot, full of hate accusing others of hate.

So what? Do you think that extreme conservatives do the same? If you do, then you must understand that presenting one side only, presents biased rhetoric who's only purpose is to inflame. This is the problem with hacks. They don't care about the truth, they don't care about the US. They only care about sticking it to the other group.

The actions of the democrats in power is what has divided this country, as the November elections clearly demonstrated...

To people like yourself, honest political disagreement only exists when it's your side that's doing it... When we do it, it's "Hate", "Racism" and "Promoting violence", even though no such violence has taken place.

Liberal policies and governing made your bed, and now the American people are making you all lie in it... Either you accept their decision with class and evaluate your proposals and beliefs, or you can continue to use lies and political rhetoric to attack the right, which further isolates yourselves from main stream America and reduces the credibility of your ideological beliefs.

Honestly, CC I get that Malkin can be inflammatory. In this case, however, that list would never even have been compiled if the right hadn't been forced to defend itself in the first place.

I disagree, i think the point he's making is poor and done poorly by not expanding on it, but i do think this is relevant.

Many on the left who are using this tragedy as nothing but a political tool are saying that they're legitimate in doing so because hateful violent rhetoric could cause, inspire, or create an atmosphere that causes a person to take the statements literally or too far and perform an act of violence.

However...their own hateful rhetoric is seemingly potentially (with as much "proof" that its happening for this reason as the people making the accusations have) causing threats of violence and danger to be made towards the people their spewing their "rhetoric" about.

In a way, it highlights the utter and complete hypocrisy of their argument. They are using absolutely zero hard proof, and only extremely light anecdotal coincidences, to attack political opponents for their "hateful" rhetoric that could potentially inspire/cause/create an atmosphere that is "dangerous" which is in turn seemingly inspiring/causing/creating an atmosphere that is "dangerous" for the people they're attacking if one requires as much proof as they themselves used to make their argument.

For any conservative that is saying "hateful rhetoric is okay", if they COMPLAIN about the other side using hateful rhetoric...sure, that's idiotic.

For any conservative that is saying you shouldn't use this situation to push a political agenda about "hateful rhetoric", then I think its okay to point the hypocrisy of this out but not to complain that its too hateful and this type of rhetoric needs to be toned down.

For any conservative that is saying we do need to tone down the hateful rhetoric but not for anything related to this incident and people need to stop trying to connect this incident to that, then I think its okay to point out the hypocrisy AND to speak negatively of their hateful rhetoric as well.

It doesn't matter who speaks the truth, or what their motive might be. All that is required is that each word they speak be factually correct from the objective standpoint of a third party neutral.

Thank you.

That's bs, Grim. The actions of the Republicans in power prior to Obama becoming President is what divided the country. 2008 clearly demonstrated that. Now that the country is divided, we will see this repeatedly.

To people like yourself, honest political disagreement only exists when it's your side that's doing it... When we do it, it's "Hate", "Racism" and "Promoting violence", even though no such violence has taken place.

More bs, Grim. This above sentence describes you and people like you, PERFECTLY. You cannot tolerate any disagreement that does not fit in your worldview. When you hear it, you call it hate. It's what defines you.

Liberal policies and governing made your bed, and now the American people are making you all lie in it... Your hackery really knows no bounds Grim. The extreme conservatives have created this situation with their hate and idiocy... and how they whine when it comes back at them. It demonstrates the lack of integrity that folks like that have and shows how out of touch with America those like you are. Now, you can continue to demonstrate the irony in everything you say... and as always, I will be there to point out how ridiculous you sound.

I disagree. I am saying the same thing you are, just in a more concise way.
