Sarah Palin did NOT say "I can see Russia from my house."

from RightnNYC

and you still want to go on the attack and claim this without one shred of evidence that there even exists such a person - moron or otherwise.

You're kidding, right?

So you're saying that I need to prove that there is at least one person on this planet who thinks that Palin actually said that? You're arguing that everyone who repeats this line knows full well that it's a joke?

Remember when I said that I like to correct ignorance wherever I see it? Once again, I'll make an exception for you. Feel free to keep wallowing.

NO. What I have said is that you are attacking people that you have not proved even exist. This is about YOU and YOUR allegations, YOUR attacks and your CLAIMS. All I am doing is accepting that the Palin joke is a joke. You are the one who is saying its much more than that to some people. So its up to you to prove it. Which you have not even come close to starting to.

I truly do not care if you produce one person who believes this, ten persons, a thousand persons or the entire population of the USA. I would hope that before you attack a group of people for their beliefs you FIRST establish that there are such people. Its just a normal thing to do when making allegations in a debate.

This is NOT NOW about you going out and finding evidence. It is about you failing to do so when you first made the allegations.

Unfortunately, he's not.

Its not about me. Its about you not supporting your own claims, your own assertions, your own allegations with any evidence when you made them.

Moderator's Warning:
I know it is a Palin thread, but could we try and remember the "civility" thing. Thank you.

If you think there is no person on this planet who believes that Palin actually said that, I don't know what to say.

No reasonable person would demand that I prove something so manifestly obvious to everyone else.

I'm not going to get caught in this masturbation fest for too long, so if I somehow cleverly miss some of your criteria, then too bad. It sounded like you wanted one numbskull to take the joke too seriously or not even notice it is a joke. Just one numbskull, somewhere.

CNN: Sarah Palin Has Never Seen Russia From Alaska

Looking at may World Atlas I see Wasilla on the east edge of a marsh lake ( according to the map ) to the west of the lake about 118 mile west there is a mountain range with the elevation of about El 2669 to El 4444, to the south of that there are two mountains elev. 3431.. It would seem that the Mt. range would be an obstructio*n to anything west .. ( Russia ) Further the article said the Russian Isle was about 550 miles away, I measured a little more but we'll use the 550.. The earth Horizon is about `16 miles because of the curvature of the earth, beyond that you can not see unless you're elevated..*. at 550 miles that is 34.4 horizons on a straight visual line... It's been awhile since I used my math, but you students can figure out the Tangent offset is based on the radius of the earth.. Tangent offset if the length from the curve up to a point that meets a straight line from the origin ( wasilla )"

Interesting. Did your own legal background teach you to make unproven assumptions and simply have them go unchallenged? All I am doing here is what you have taught me to do - not give one damn inch and make the other side prove every little thing they say no matter how obvious it may be to them. And even if they can prove it, challenge them and make them do it anyway just to a pain in the ass. You taught me that in a few past rounds with you. And I thank you for the education.

No, it taught me that when dealing with intelligent and reasonable people, basic things like this are generally stipulated.

All I am doing here is what you have taught me to do - not give one damn inch and make the other side prove every little thing they say no matter how obvious it may be to them. I'd ask you to link me to examples of where I've made requests that are as petty and indisputable as the one you're making here, but I'd just as soon not have to continue talking with you any further.

But this is what you have constantly done in thread with me. You pick at little things and refuse to concede anything in any way. You demand proof of things and then claim that they proof is just not enough to make my case. All I am doing here is taking my two years of debate training and applying the new twist that you have used successfully here to frustrate those with which you disagree with.

And you do not seem to approve.

And lo and behold you are attempting to do it again with

I'd ask you to link me to examples of where I've made requests that are as petty and indisputable as the one you're making here,

even when you deny that you do it - you still do it out of habit.

the single most overused word on this website by right wingers is LIE. By your standard, every parody is a LIE. Every imitation is a LIE. Every joke based on a real event that uses exaggeration to make a point is a LIE. When it comes to your own gods who reside upon your altar of worship, many of you have no sense of humor at all.

I thought Darrell Hammond was terrific as Bill Clinton - very funny. Fred Armisen simply does not do a good Obama and thus really falls short of the mark for great parody.

You need to either read my post more carefully, or try using a pair if reading glasses that don't have partisan liberal lenses in them.

I never said, nor do I in fact, have a problem with the SNL bit. I though it was funny as hell. My comment referred to members of the media.

I'll do it for him, since he isn't the OP, it's not HIS job. It's mine. So here you go:

Zogby Poll

512 Obama Voters 11/13/08-11/15/08 MOE +/- 4.4 points

97.1% High School Graduate or higher, 55% College Graduates

Results to 12 simple Multiple Choice Questions

57.4% could NOT correctly say which party controls congress (50/50 shot just by guessing)

71.8% could NOT correctly say Joe Biden quit a previous campaign because of plagiarism (25% chance by guessing)

82.6% could NOT correctly say that Barack Obama won his first election by getting opponents kicked off the ballot (25% chance by guessing)

88.4% could NOT correctly say that Obama said his policies would likely bankrupt the coal industry and make energy rates skyrocket (25% chance by guessing)

56.1% could NOT correctly say Obama started his political career at the home of two former members of the Weather Underground (25% chance by guessing).

And yet.....

Only 13.7% failed to identify Sarah Palin as the person on which their party spent $150,000 in clothes

Only 6.2% failed to identify Palin as the one with a pregnant teenage daughter

And 86.9 % thought that Palin said that she could see Russia from her "house," even though that was Tina Fey who said that!!

Only 2.4% got at least 11 correct.

Only .5% got all of them correct. (And we "gave" one answer that was technically not Palin, but actually Tina Fey)

So now that this group of people has been clearly established as roughly 90% of the American population, may we continue the debate? Saying "of course we know it wasn't Palin" is ridiculous. No, most people DON'T KNOW THAT, hence the existence of this thread.

yes, there is that poll.... but that was NEVER my point.... again here is what i said to RightnNYC

You do not make allegations against people and then hope that somewhere down the road somebody else saves your butt with proof.

The really pathetic thing is that two years later somebody thinks this is an issue.

Hay, I know what you said. I quoted you. You didn't need to re-quote yourself in your reply to me. I know you weren't talking to me, but I felt that since I made this thread it was my job to do the research to back it up. I did poorly in the OP, so I went ahead and did it right there.

Palin never said she could see Russia from her house. That's a lie that the media has spewed as truth because Tina Fey said it on a comedy skit. Such ignorance is on par with believing Obama is a Muslim.

I never said, nor do I in fact, have a problem with the SNL bit. I though it was funny as hell. My comment referred to members of the media.
Agreed Grim, the skit was one of the best SNL had in a long time. It's just too bad many folks seem to get their news from SNL.

amazing.

palin made a fatuous remark - fey made it even more fatuous and funnier... and it gets 7 pages of responses.

sarah palin is the same intellectual cipher she was when she made the aforementioned fatuous remark, if a little better handled. People like Sarah Palin BECAUSE she says stupid things. No one likes the smartest kid in the class, people love pretty women especially if they are stupid.

Sarah will maintain an enduring fan base, some morons will actually vote for her if she runs. She certainly is malleable enough to be nominated.... who is gonna be the man behind the curtain is the bigger question.

RightInNY.... i am astounded that you are such a vociferous defender of that empty skirt. what is it that you find so compelling about her?

geo.

No... What's amazing is you calling what Palin actually said in that interview "fatuous". She made a statement of absolute fact when discussing our relations with Russia, and there was nothing at fatuous about it.

Whether she said it (she didnt) or not, her public statements were amateurish at best. WHen I first hear about Sarah Palin it was about a year before the election and they were discussing potential vice presidents. Palin was mentioned...but there wasnt a great deal of detail. WHen they announced her as McCains running mate I thought...interesting choice...kind of a smart play...she even spoke well. Then she went 'off script'. She simply isnt ready for big stage politics. She isnt dumb...not by any means. She is attractive, has charisma...scared the HELL out of the left (which is why so much attention was focused on HER dumbass comments and not Bidens dumbass comments...and seriously...any partisan leftist hacks here want to compare the two? And that dickhead has had what...decades in the senate?).

I kind of hoped she would go off on a retreat for a few years...vanish...go hang out with monks or something, and come back a polished, professional candidate. But...no...she continues to prove herself not ready for prime time.
