California: Senator Diane Feinstein Signs Ballot Argument Opposing Marijuana Depenalization Measure
    Share This Article

Sacramento, CA: California's senior senator, Democrat Diane Feinstein (San Francisco), has cosigned the ballot argument against Prop. 19, The Regulate, Control & Tax Cannabis Initiative of 2010, which would allow adults 21 years or older to privately possess and cultivate marijuana for personal use. It would also permit local governments the option to authorize the retail sale and commercial cultivation of cannabis to adults. Personal marijuana cultivation or not-for-profit sales of marijuana would not be taxed under the measure.

Senator Feinstein issued a statement this week calling the measure "a jumbled legal nightmare that will make our highways, our workplaces and our communities less safe." Feinstein falsely claims that the measure, if passed, would prohibit sanctions against employees or motorists who are impaired by marijuana, and would cost California billions of dollars in federal funding.

"Senator Feinstein's opposition to this measure is based upon fear, not fact," NORML Deputy Director Paul Armentano said. "The public is well ahead of the politicians when it comes to the issue of enacting common sense marijuana law reforms."

Senator Feinstein has served in Congress since 1992.

According to the most recent statewide poll, conducted on July 11 by Survey USA, 50 percent of Californians support Prop. 19, while 40 percent oppose it.

Not nearly as bad as her attempts to stonewall solar panels because of "environmental" concerns about a few square miles of desert needed for the panels. Feinstein is like the avatar of what I dislike about the Democratic party.

Unfortunately, her Republican opponent is sure to be no better on these issues.

Who cares she has absolutely no power over this issue. I live in California and I'm really pissed about her opinions too but the reality is that she cannot control the outcome of Prop 19.

However I am skeptical that the law will pass. You'd be surprised how many people are fervently against legalizing marijuana. The majority group that votes, seniors, are a group who grew up watching videos that told them smoking pot made you chop up your family with an axe.

Not to worry...you just have to look at the politics game...

1-Her opinion will have no sway over California voters
2-She already has the mindless leftist vote in her pocket. IF the race is as close as some people are predicting this position allows her to represent herself as a moderate and maybe sway some of the more conservative independent voters.

    Re: Senator Feinstein Sucks!

Don't get me wrong, I want the proposition to pass, and if it does you're damn right i will tear up my tomatoes to grow some marijuana but there are serious underlying issues with legalizing marijuana in California.

For one, even if they make it legal in California, its still federally illegal and while Obama has said he will not raid medical marijuana clinics, his administration has not said anything about recreational.

Secondly, it is predicted that legalizing marijuana will make the price drop in California by 80%. How wonderful does buying marijuana in California and selling it to the rest of the country suddenly sound? Begins to sound more like a federal issue doesn't it?

Thirdly, under prop 19 employers can still drug test employees and fire them on the grounds of these drug tests. What are the employees to do? Sue them? It will just go to federal courts and then its obvious they will lose.

There will be a scare campaign that passing Prop 19 will cost California jobs and kill kittens, cute cuddly kittens, people!
