I just thought it was funny you bought the media's story on Body Count wholesale. It's obvious you never heard what it is you are complaining about.

Re: German Moves to Ban Violent Video games

I love the whole "video games are going to destroy us all" thing some people have. Overall, this is nothing more than overreaction by Germany. Violent video games aren't going to make someone run out and start shooting up a place...less it was overrun by zombies and then you're going to be happy we gamers show up. But didn't Germany also ban like paintball guns or wanted to ban them after this last shooting?

Re: German Moves to Ban Violent Video games

I find it interesting that the authorities continue to search for why people become violent when the answer is obvious: humans are a violent race. Most of us, over the course of generations, and through higher controls, have learned to suppress our most violent tendencies, but they are still there. We are still savage.

But we can't think about it that way. We instead have to look for scapegoats to justify why some people don't fall in line and in turn become violent.

Sure I did.

Twenty friggin' years ago, or whenever it came out, which was a long time ago.

Since it was crap, I didn't buy the album.

I'll stick with the Millers, Glenn and Mitch and Steve.

Could Violent Video Games Reduce Rather Than Increase Violence?

It is debatable whether violent video games lead to violence. A study of the studies done shows a bias towards finding a certain result.

Re: German Moves to Ban Violent Video games

Naturally its time for Germany to ban the bible. I mean, a guy murdered someone here in the U.S. because their religious beliefs, founded from the bible, said the person was killing babies.

Naturally we and germany need a 5 year moratorium on the bible to study its effects

Re: German Moves to Ban Violent Video games

To understand this you have to understand Germans. Germans have this automatic reflex to try and fix anything. Any sort of situation. Be it social of physical. Clearly this argument of video games+ abuse= violent reaction can be disputed simple because
Video games have been around for what 30 years? I have no idea when atari came out, I believe I had a nintendo in germany about 1986 or so.

Violence has been arounds since...I dunno 10,000 BC.

Its laughable to say video games causes violence when we have a full history of violent behavior.

Maybe what we are guilty of is not providing children with direction and purpose.

However, Dr. Christopher Ferguson in 2007, found cause to suspect the results of Anderson and Dill’s study.

“Anderson and Dill claim to offer causal evidence for the video game-aggression link. However a close read of their article suggests otherwise. The authors use four separate measures of aggression provided by a “noise blast” program (which punishes players with an irritating white noise) and find significance for only one of the four. Had the authors examined the confidence intervals around the effect size for these findings they would have found that such a confidence interval crosses zero and thus should not be considered “proof” of a positive finding.” Ferguson, 2007

He found that the Anderson and Dill study to be misleading! Ferguson also points out that the noise blast program that was used was nonstandard and therefore could have affected the outcome of the study’s findings. Ferguson, along with colleagues, conducted a similar experiment to that of Anderson and Dill, using a “standardized and reliable version of the noise blast program [and] found no relationship between violent game exposure and aggression.” Ferguson, 2007

Can it be concluded that a universal pastime foresees such an infrequent behaviour, the extreme being school shootings? Studies have shown as much as 98.7% of teens play video games, that’s a significant number. If an adolescent steals, gets into fights, murders, or gets bad grades, chances are highly likely that they also play video games, but does that create a cause and effect relationship? What about all the honour roll students, volunteers and responsible adolescences who play the same games, is there a correlation then? In my opinion, video games can’t be correlated to extreme behaviours and shouldn’t be used to placate victims of abnormal tragedies. It’s an insult to victims and gamers alike.
