Georege Will calls it like it is

I saw the speech as a challenge to government establishment. Therefore I liked it. I view the the government establishment as the single greatest impediment to the American way of life. It is easy to see why liberals didn't like it. They would have preferred soaring rhetoric like that provided by past presidents. That siimply isn't Trump. He was himself saying what he thinks. Pretty refreshing to get that from a president in my view. You can disagree with what he said but I think you will have to agree that he meant what he said. Pretty rare in Washington.

And Will just lost his contract with Fox News.

Will might call it like he sees it, but it's not how I see it. The only way you could call that speech "dark" is if you are utterly and completely a tool of DC globalist elites and utterly and completely hate ordinary Americans.

Will is a devoted member of the establishment. Trump opposes the establishment and so Will opposes Trump.

It is based only on his usually well founded thought process. In this case, I feel that he's wrong.

I can disagree with him and still respect his intelligence and I do both of these.

Never Trump-Never Will

Meh.

Sounds, dark, dictatorial, and stump-like. If you dislike him, you probably disliked it. If you like him, you probably liked it.

I didn't like Obama, and actively campaigned against him twice. I found both of his inaugural addresses to be inspiring. I liked GW Bush, and actively campaigned for him twice, and found both of his inaugural addresses to be mediocre and dull. I don't agree with what you posted. George Will didn't support Trump (nor did I) but that doesn't mean he isn't giving an honest assessment of Trump's address. I agree with Will and if people think it's because I "don't like Trump", I'll roll my eyes and question how we're ever to have discord again if that's the standard response to everything.

I didn't watch any of the inaugural, which is normal for me as I never watched any president's inaugural address and any other hoopla that deals with it. I suspect those who are for Trump thought his speech was the greatest ever and those opposed to him, the worst ever. It all comes down to partisan affiliation. Nothing new there.

Since I didn't listen to it or watch any of the ceremonies dealing with his inauguration, This Reform Party member can't tell you whether I thought it be good or be bad. I really don't care one way or the other.

Well, I agree with everything here, but would like to defend that I bolded.

Actually, perhaps there was a misunderstanding here.

I'm in full support of George Will's assessment. My comments above were directed at Trump's speech, not Will's opinion piece. And I do believe that speech reflected much of what Trump's supporters like, and much of what his detractors dislike.
