It was a breath of fresh air to see and hear Trump in action. It made me realize how much I missed the campaign season, since I have not heard much from Trump since the election. He went head to head with lefties, which really makes me envious. I like to lock horns with lefties, but I am limited to environments like internet forums where I can never actually hold lefty feet to the fire the way Trump gets to. Go Trump!
I don't share your sensibilities about lefties and forums. For me, this is just all about a couple of things things:
1. Exposure to information, news and data that would consume an enormous amount of my time if I were to try to find it all myself.
2. The chance to exercise my mind...my ability to understand what is being said to me, to evaluate it and to express a reasoned response.
I have nothing personal against leftists, though I certainly have attitudes and judgments toward individual members.
However, to get to your actual thread topic, here is my take on that press conference:
Trump doesn't deal with the press in the "normal" manner. You would think that by now, the press would wise up...but they haven't. It seems like they MUST think Trump operates...or eventually will operate...like a typical politician, even though he's shown them from day one that he won't. He uses that to his advantage, though.
With other politicians, when they want to get some point, position or information out to the masses, they'd call a conference, make a statement, answer a few questions with practiced, pre-written responses...and then move one. The press, in turn, would report on the statement and answers and add their own spin. That's not how Trump operates. If he wants to get anything to the masses, he uses social media. He leaves it up to the press to watch his FB and Twitter, report on what he says, add their spin...and leaves it at that. He has effectively cut out their questions and relegated them to simply reporting about him. By restricting their questions, he maintains control.
Trump has no qualms about directly chastising the press when he thinks they are doing bad stuff...and he uses press conferences as a means to get them all together, in one place, so he can do that. Frankly, if I were in the press and Trump called a press conference, I'd be dreading that event. It just might be
me who gets chastised this time.
So, EvMetro, I share your reaction and agree that Trump is a breath of fresh air in regards to press conferences. The days of politician double talk and the media spinning to get that politician's "real" message to the masses are over. People need to listen to Trump...not the press.
