I will never be able to see Streep as an actress again. I will always be forced to see her as the lefty, regardless of what role she is playing. I am glad to see the fighters hitting back.

Oh please, her place is already secured as a great actress with the chops and the awards to prove it. Her opinions are just as important as anybody else's. Trump was praising her as a "fine person" a couple years ago but the jackass can't take criticism, so his passive aggressive nature comes out and he starts whining. He's mocked Asians he's mocked the disabled. He's made disparaging and disrespectful comments about women. And yet those are traits that his supporters somehow find admirable. They think it's cool that he's crass, rude and offensive and has the tact and diplomacy of a sixth grader. Says a lot about his supporters. Like school on a Saturday.

That's funny. It would be funny to see one of those MMA fighters say something like, "We won't become age intolerant by spar with a feeble-minded 80 year old." :lol:

A month ago, I would have agreed. I have always liked her as an actress, but this was all before she redefined herself as an ugly lefty. Now, I will always think of her political stage stunt when I see her in a movie, instead of all those wonderful years of acting. Kinda like OJ. I do not think about sports when I hear about OJ, I think about a murderer.

This may be a little off topic, but what are your comments on the OP?

I was not conscious politically during those days. I was an hard core lefty until around the turn of the century. I used to listen to NPR on my way home every night, and my car was full of water bottles and granola bar wrappers. I began waking from my lefty slumber around the turn of the century, and have continued waking up ever since.

Odd. it was around then that I woke from my Rightie slumber to discover GWB was an idiot--a well meaning one perhaps, but an idiot nonetheless---and that the Right Wing of the party was filled with a bunch of hacks and religious nuts. I belive I woke up about a month or two after the statue fell.

Most actors and artists are "lefties" and as for the OP, I have no opinion . I'm not a sports fan in anyway shape or form.

One does not move from right to left. Political evolution is always from left to right. We are born as natural lefties, screaming for a bottle or breast for our survival, and we can only evolve to the right as we get older.

I am sorry about your experience with Bush. It has taken me four 4 year terms to fully understand why Reagan was the last good president, and I had to get burned at midterms two years ago with my straight Repub vote to get it to really sink in.

Oh. I was definitely a lefty back in the 70's when I smoked pot every day and wore bell bottom jeans. But, Carter cured me of that...as did getting my first real job :)

What scares me is his predictable 'twit' response. If he's that easy to provoke and predict, the Chinese are going to turn him into an eggroll.
 
Boy, righties REALLY get their knickers in a twist when a celebrity uses the bully pulpit to stick it to Dear Leader. I'm sure these guys were just as upset when Ted Nugent railed against Obama on a seemingly daily basis.

That said, the part of her speech that irked me was her slam on sports, which didn't seem particularly relevant to what she was trying to say and came off as snobbish.

That explains it. I IMDb'd her and I think I've only seen three of her movies: The Giver, Death Becomes Her, The Deer Hunter.

Looks like maybe she did a bunch of "artsy" type movies that are probably not very good but will get lots of awards. For example, I remember everyone raving about Brokeback Mountain and when I went to see it, it was actually not a good movie at all.
