What should we call it when Trump lies, a lie, or something else?

If you disagree with the person, it's a lie or a damn lie. If you agree generally with the person, it's an inaccurate statement. If you don't care one way or the other, it's all BS.

I find the problem with some of Trumps supporters is that they believe anything he says no matter what the facts are. I actually feel better about those who support him and recognize that he tells lies andd just put up with it.

A lie is someone knowingly saying something untrue. So here's the question...does Trump KNOW that the **** that comes out of his mouth is untrue? If he doesn't, then he's not lying, he's simply saying things that aren't true.

I think there is a distinction to be made here in regards to Trump vs, say, the hard lying of Hillary. Trump often exaggerates, like his statement of thousands cheering in NJ when the Twin Trade towers came down. It was less than that, much less, but in it there was the kernel of truth. Hillary with a whole list of lies about her email server, emails, what she knew, what she did...or the sniper event that never happened in Bosnia... flat out lies with no degree of any truth.

Trump is a salesman, who like a great story teller, embellishes quite often. There is a difference. No doubt he flat lies too, at times... but mostly he seems a mere enhancer of the truth.

A subtle and important difference that is lost on many who would rather grind their political axe, and make their points, by any means necessary, no matter how dishonest.

Enough of the American people, after this last eight years of being fooled completely, our basic goodness used against us, saw through the real, constant and total lies being told to us and opted for a non politician, a non lawyer, those types we have come to expect the truth in the answer to the question, how do you know when a lawyer/politician is lying? When their lips are moving and sound comes out.

We, enough of us together, are willing to take this chance with a Trump... a true American character. To me he is a combination Andrew Jackson, Teddy R and PTBarnum. The world was not especially ready for any of them, but were entranced by them all... and so I say lets see what Trump does. And I am not one that will let him off easy either, he has to perform... or he becomes the same old same old, the Hillary we knew in a Trump's skin.

So, eyes wide open I am knocking on wood, keeping my fingers crossed.

I most certainly agree with this, and as do many others in the electorate, enough to render the election results that we have.

True that. It's the situation we are currently in, right, wrong, good, bad or indifferent. However, to me, I'm not so much a pro-Trump just a very anti-Hillary, for many of the same reasons that you cited above.

Yeah, pretty much. But I'm cautiously optimistic that this non-politician, this non-lawyer, might end up surprising everyone, much to the nation's benefit.

Agreed.

What I am, myself, cautiously optimistic about is something that is beyond the non politician, non lawyer and that is someone that can actually be considered of that rarer and rarer of breeds, a true patriot. He already has it all, maybe he doesn't have to prove anything to anybody, is beyond the usual temptations as he really already has most everything, lots of money, lots of properties, fame/big name, achievements, plenty of the highest ranking opponents beaten to easily discard, a trophy but also seemingly nice person in his current wife, great family/children/grandchildren...

Maybe all that is left is to do something truly great for America. Would truly enhance the brand. And its not like America is barren of all the required raw materials, we just need leaders with much better aim... and integrity in carrying out those aims.

This is something to hope for, and thank you for expressing it.

Quite right.

It is this leadership that has been sorely lacking in recent memory. Leadership isn't conniving, lying, cheating, the people. Leadership is doing the 'right' thing even when it's hard, when there are challenges laid before you, doing 'right' by the people.

Something that has been definitely lacking as of late.

Wall Street Journal Editor Says His Newspaper Won't Call Donald Trump's Lies 'Lies' | The Huffington Post

Apparently one of the major media outlets is not going to call them lies, but "something else". What do you think we should call it when Tump lies, Oh no, I mean tells an untruth? Do we believe that Trump never lies as some of his supporters do? They seem to believe everything he says.

If it's negative and about "the left", it's the newest gospel. If it's anything else, he didn't mean or say it.

At a certain point, a willful disregard of the truth or falsity of what one's says isn't really all that different from a lie, particularly so if you intend for others to believe what you say while harboring that disregard.

Are you saying it is okay fo a non-politician/lawyer to lie?

If it's a lie then call it a lie. Most of the time when Trump's critics say he's lying he's not, though.

I tend to dismiss anything and everything Trump's critics say about him out of hand these days. It's just common sense policy. They've all gone insane.

Why come up with something new?

When Obama or Hillary have been caught in flagrant lies, the press just accepts that they "misspoke", or "misremembered" something.

Just use those words.

However, if the concern is that such words have been used so often, and over such a long period of time, the public has become weary of their use, then I guess it's wise to think of something different.
