Is the next administration going to ruin education?

So we in effect, dumb the whole school system down to the lowest common denominator.

I'm not sure what you're saying with that comment.

It seems the NEA is changing the score before the report the results of the game.

My feeling on this is that the teachers in the private/parochial schools have the goal of teaching the students and producing well educated students.

I also feel that while the teachers in the public schools hold that as a aim, their actual goal is to strengthen their union and improve their package of income and benefits.

The incomes and benefits of the public school teachers continue to increase and are at the top of the world's compensation. Our student achieved results have not enjoyed similar preeminence.

This is one of my major problems. It seems the more we spend on education, the worse it gets. Then they keep asking for more and more.

Money will not solve the problems in our education system. It needs a change from the top down in the way it is managed.

Is that religious nut they got into the DoED gonna make American public schools like the ones in Mississippi?

I'm sorry...are you assuming that our CURRENT public education system is actually effective? Our education has been ruined for quite some time now.

Hard to say.

Various political actors have spent decades cementing local control over schools. While people don't like "American public schools," they do like their own schools, and will not be happy if the federal government sabotages local schools.

Oh, and big changes -- like allowing private school vouchers -- require legislation.

Not everyone can be a scientist or engineer but you can at least get the public to support science and technology!
Not sure what she will do to push STEM.

I am sorry but high rates of teen pregnancy, creationism, and moralizing won't make us an interstellar society!
Just to be clear, teen pregnancy rates have been falling. And I think Americans gave up on schools teaching morality to kids some time ago.

Not only do private schools outperform public schools, the average cost per student in private schools is significantly lower.

In other words, public schools spend significantly more money and achieve lower results than private schools.

So what's wrong with giving families the choice of what school their kids public education money is spent?

I like the choice, as long as we don't force the private schools to take children that don't meet their criteria.

What are you basing this on?

Last I checked, it is only Catholic schools that spend the same amount per student as public schools. Other types of schools tend to spend much more; tuition alone can be double what public schools spend on students.

Plus, comparing public and private schools has a few... issues. Are private schools required by law to teach special education? Kids with developmental disabilities, behavioral problems, or other issues? You do know that schools are required to include those students in their test scores, yes?

H'm, let's think.

1) The amount of funding via vouchers will be a tiny fraction of most school tuitions.
2) Diverting funds away from public schools undermines the local schools. Parents, part of whose home value is dependent on good schools, will love that.
3) Some of those funds will go to Muslim schools. You can't stop it either, since blocking some religions but not others violates the First Amendment. You good with that?

Ultimately, this is just another sop to wealthy families that undermines public education. It's not a good plan.

This is the practice of our government, though.

As Reagan said, "If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. If it stops moving, subsidize it."

Using a private sector model involving competition and process control would provide a good collection of experimental labs nationwide for finding the Best Practices.

Are the folks in charge of education just opposed Trump or are they also opposed to winning?

You are not a centrist. Please prove that this will be the agenda. Just to address one point, there are many scientists who don't think man can do much of anything about global warming and believe that it's going to happen no matter what we do and that many global warming activists are fudging the facts to promote their agenda and your other points are mostly biased liberal partisan fearmongering. The far right couldn't take over education even if they wanted to.

Except it isn't, as many education boards across the country battle to misinform the countries children in areas like Evolution and Sexual education as examples.

The concern and the actions of more conservative orientated school boards is very real and the executives possible endorsement of said positions could be very damaging to many childrens educations and in many cases their lives.

My question on the efficacy of our educators has nothing to do at all with the political diversions of the educators.

The question is: why do students in other countries around the world learn more, with greater depth and greater understanding producing better results in the areas of curriculum studies?

We often see sneaky recordings of teachers bloviating on political topics unrelated to the curriculum. Why? Why do they feel they must insert personal political opinion into any topic area? My high school teachers did this on occasion and one was an overt Communist. Comical in retrospect, but tragic at the time.

The methods are what need revision. Eyes on the prize, people.

Coercing teachers to do their job is one thing that shouldn't need to be done. Why is it the foremost question in education?

The product is the educated student. If the system is failing to produce the desired product, and it is, then the system needs to be changed.

The production system is not to be judged by anything else than the finished product.
