Time for our own Person of the Year selection. FYI, I last did this in 2013 and suggestions were Mandela, Pope Francis, Snowden, Ted Cruz, Bradley Manning, wikileaks, Rand Paul, Tony Abbott, and Miley Cyrus.

What person do you think had the greatest impact on politics in 2016, other than Trump or Obama. And why?

Focusing in on US politics, I would have to say Wikileaks and Julian Asange. They brought down the DNC and many people in the DNC, just by publishing their emails.

Other than Trump or Obama ? Hillary Clinton. I mean come on, she :

Was the only politician that could lose to Trump
Enabled the people to showcase their hatred for the establishment
Showed the US that the presidential elections are not rigged

Pretty amazing if you ask me.

Dangot forgot to exclude her too :). Trying to go for someone not obvious.

There is only one person of the year: Trump. Anyone else is just getting the award because you took Trump off the list. My 2 cents.

Other than Trump?

If not Trump then I think a distant second would be Bernie. Hillary was just the same ol', same ol' and even made less people inclined to engage politically. Bernie energized a whole new generation of voters and was a major player in this year's populist "uprising".

There may be somebody more deserving on an international scale but my focus was pretty American-centric this year.

I agree, the email scandal had quite a lot of threads going on here

Theo Epstein.

Trump, hands down.

Good point. Certainly made a big impact.
