The content creator here had a fascinating idea; he went to liberal mecca Berkeley, CA to ask white liberals if they thought Voter ID laws were racist against blacks. As you can see, many white liberals said Yes, citing black's inability to find the DMV, black's inability to work a computer, and other racist ideas.

Then the video's creator went to Harlem, NY, and asked black people what they thought about all those racist stereotypes floating around in white liberal LalaLand.

Watch the video to see how it went, and then...

The idiot Berkley libs might as well have just said that they think blacks are too stupid to get IDs.Although I am sure racist libs will argue why didn't he go to a black neighborhood in a voter ID state to see if those black people those questions.

I get the feeling that we won't be hearing from many liberals on this thread, lol. That's always the sign that they are giving a collective touché to your post.

Its still early in the day. I am sure they will try to claim that saying black people are incapable of getting state issued ID cards is somehow not racist.

Two thoughts.

One, the kids at Berkeley are without question total morons. That can be demonstrated in dozens of ways outside of the voter ID issue. It galls me that California Taxpayers are required to underwrite that place.

Second, I think Ari could avoid some of the criticism of this piece that will likely come his way had he interviewed Blacks in Montgomery Alabama, for example.

However, that doesn't take away from the extremely valid point he was making.

One, the kids at Berkeley are without question total morons.

Berkeley's acceptance rate for the Fall 2016 was 17.5%, with the middle half of admits having GPAs well above 4.0 and ACT composite scores of 30-34. So if these people are total morons, what does that say about the rest of the college gene pool? Scary thought.

It doesn't say much about the rest of the college gene pool I would have to say.

Of course, one can be smart and be a moron. Just ask my wife about me.

The fact is, these kids don't realize how completely racist they are being while thinking in their hearts they are totally sympathetic.

The video provide pure evidence of the brainwashing they have received throughout their education. Those kids interviewed are living examples of sheep just following what they have been told.

Not a good thing to ponder for tomorrow's leaders.

What a great piece.

I wish one of our news giants would take this on....Sixty Minutes, Dateline, et al. I also wish he had asked those students one last question: "Do you think that attitude is racist?"

Black people correctly observe that Berkeley hippies are dumb, therefore voter ID is fine?

Interesting hypothesis.

Interesting hypothesis.

Black people observe that it is a misconception that blacks do not have the knowledge or skills that would result in them being able to produce a valid ID when voting. They also believe that misconception is based in ignorance. Therefore, opposition to voter ID is based on ignorance and in misconceptions and it is fine to be asked to produce a valid ID when voting.

I think George Bush referred to this as the "soft bigotry of low expectations".

Counterpoint: The idea that the only reason someone wouldn't have the appropriate ID is being too stupid is the real bigotry.

Video tape enough Berkeley hippies and you'll find a handful dumb enough to only be able to come up with "black people are too dumb to get IDs."

But are you really willing to accept these hippy idiots' conclusions on voter ID really speak to the whole picture of this discussion? Or, maybe, just maybe, some sheltered college sophomores just don't ****ing understand what the actual issue is. Maybe some cracker-ass college kids in one of the richest hippie schools on the planet don't understand the troubles of poor, black Americans.

Because this is fact: A greater percentage of black citizens do not have an ID on the list required to cast a vote in the states that have voter ID laws. Now, personally, "they're dumber" is not my explanation for this fact. Is it yours? Anyone here hold this opinion?

I fully support voter ID 100% when it's about identification. I don't recall anybody really having a problem with voter ID laws when it's just about showing a valid ID, any commonly government accepted ID. So the Video is quite the failure because it's based on a strawman that is not even close to the objections the majority of people have with Voter ID. What the video asl has never been the main argument against voter ID on any level.

The voting i.d. in and of itself is a red herring.

You may not find an issue with individual cases such as the voter i.d. issue, per se, and may even see each case as having a relatively easy work-around. However, when you take into consideration the aggregate of voting legislation, who's applying it and who it's applied to, it's not difficult to see that it's not necessary for the individual restrictions to bar all Democrats from voting. It's enough that when lumped together the red states have managed to decrease the strength of the Democratic voting base as a whole.

The point is that the aggregate of these restrictions (of which the voter id is only one example) exists only in red states and it specifically and exclusively target demographics known to vote Democrat.

The voter id issue absolutely belongs to a broader discussion. Conservatives who support weakening the Democratic voting bases's strength understand that with no problems, which is why they alone support every restriction, and regularly address it by deflecting and nitpicking individual cases.

I purposely didn't read anything past your OP in order to not have a "prejudiced" opinion. My thougts:

1. Reminds of Jay Leno's Jay walking. It's hard to form an opinion based on just the responses of a few people while they probably edited out many who didn't fit into what they were trying to accomplish.

2. Having said that, it is funny how liberals can be such hypocrites as shown in the video but, do we really know for a fact that these white's actually were liberals?

3. This was entirely about blacks and I think, for the most part, that the narrative is more about Hispanics and "illegals"

4. I would have liked to have seen the Black's reactions to the actual videos instead of the guy telling him what these people had said.

5. Funny piece but you can't believe the polls of hundreds or even thousands of people, let alone edited clippings of just a small handful of people.

6. Not really to do with the video, but I was appalled at Obama telling Blacks that he would take it as a personal insult if they did not get out to vote (presumably for Hillary), as if they were too stupid to make the decision themselves on who to vote for.

My opinion is that is it a choice. I am a 50 year old black man and have had an ID since I was 12 (Army brat). I have 3 siblings and they have had ID since they were 12. My father has 5 siblings and all of the them have ID. My mother has 6 siblings and all of them have ID. My cousins in the wards of Houston, in East Texas, and in Louisiana all have ID unless they choose not to. My grandfather who was a former sharecropper and born in 1907 (rest his soul) had ID from before I was born. My 2nd and 3rd cousins in towns with no more than 1000 people like Glidden, Tx have ID. They drive, they vote, and unfortunately, some have even gone to jail. There are 5 generations of black Americans in my family that have ID. There is no one in my family that is not able to get an ID if they choose to have one.

My explanation is not that they are dumb but that it is a choice. If we were talking poll tax or a requirement to own land, we would be having a different discussion. I have yet to run into a family member at a wedding, reunion, or any other event where we discuss politics ever tell me they didn't have an ID because they didn't have access. It makes no sense that a person does not have to prove who they are to vote.

The funny thing about this video is the left and right wing view, and putting black people in the middle. Guess what, voter ID laws should not disenfranchise any voter, and both white dominated parties should give a rats ass about ensuring every ethnicity can get to the polls. This video does not do that.

Interesting hypothesis.

Well, just exactly what are the arguments that blacks have more trouble with voter ID if not that they are too stupid to get one? If they aren't stupid then what's the problem with IDs?

The specific claim is that voter ID is discriminatory against blacks, and that claim is based on the low expectations the liberal elite have for blacks. The rush to diversity should not trample down the integrity of the vote.

Actually there are black "elites and black activists and politicians saying the very same thing. The video does not discuss the issue honestly, which I don't feel very informed about IMO. I watched the video and noted only white people were asked how they felt about voter ID laws, but none of the black people were asked for their opinion. They were simply asked if they carried ID, and were approached as if that was a racist assumption. No black person was asked how they felt about voter ID laws, or if they consider voter ID laws harmful to their community.

Liberals aside, you guys just elected a white race baiter neo nazis lined up behind, and he is going to continue his behavior once in office and there is BLM issue or something of that sort. I really don't think Trump supporters have any creditability when it comes to pretending to be concerned for black racism in America.

Well, just exactly what are the arguments that blacks have more trouble with voter ID if not that they are too stupid to get one? If they aren't stupid then what's the problem with IDs?

False dichotomy. The issue isn't whether blacks are too stupid to get ID. They're not. Some eligible voters, however, do not have the documents required and do struggle to acquire them for various reasons. These people are mostly concentrated in poorer urban areas.

Here's an example. This retired engineer -- objectively not stupid -- couldn't get the proper IDs because his name was changed as a child and the state required him to show documentation for that change before issuing an ID.

I think the overall effect of voter ID laws is minimal, but those who are affected are concentrated in poorer, urban areas. How many voter ID laws make efforts to counter these effect? None. They could make it easier for people to obtain the proper IDs, but they don't. They could also include types of ID that people already have, such as SS cards and student IDs, but they don't. Why? Because the entire frigging point is to erect barriers to participation for a select group of left-leaning voters.

If you can't see this, then, like the video in the OP, you're being intellectually dishonest.

It has been argued that picture IDs are discriminiatory against blacks because they are somehow hard for blacks to get. I frankly don't understand this argument. They assume that blacks have the wherewithall to find a voting place but can't make it to some place to get a voter ID of some kind? These IDs are free in Texas, but somehow requiring them is still discriminatory. I can only conclude that elite liberals have a low opinion of the ability of black people. I really don't see any way of getting around that.

And if voter ID is required, then where are these advocacy groups? They have no trouble bussing people to the polls, so bus them to the places where the IDs are available.

I edited your post to show the most accurate and honest parts. The parts everybody, like you said who is being intellectually honest, clearly understands instead of trying to sell or buy into the false dichotomy.

Ill ask you again who has made that argument, where is it the main argument and is it about identification and showing a valid ID, any commonly government accepted ID. ?

I don't understand it either since I have never seen anybody make it or make the assumption you presented.
These IDs are free in Texas, but somehow requiring them is still discriminatory.
What IDs?

I can only conclude that elite liberals have a low opinion of the ability of black people. I really don't see any way of getting around that.
You can conclude anything you want but so far you have not shown where the argument is made the way you state it. You also haven't shown that your conclusion has any sustained and fact based support behind it or that people are actually presenting the argument based on your conclusion.
And if voter ID is required, then where are these advocacy groups? They have no trouble bussing people to the polls, so bus them to the places where the IDs are available.
Advocacy groups? Bussing people? You seem to be all over the place.

Ill break my questions out of paragraph form maybe that will be easier
