Is America really a nation?

sure, we have plenty of hypernationaist idiots. as for severe wars with foreign powers, there have been a number of those, too; the most necessary of which grew from the most preventable. however, humans and their supertribes seem to need to kill a lot of each other at regular intervals before settling down to actually live life for a couple decades.

as for an American nation, i'd say that there is one. otherwise, someone is fraudulently withdrawing money from my paycheck every two weeks.

a core value of americans is freedom and russians dont get that because many old world countries like russia and Iran and Turkey need to rely on repression to hold them together.

here's a quick rule of thumb that i've learned : when a politician comes at you talking about "freedom," look out, and cover your nuts.

Russia has one of the highest incarceration rates in the World. USA has the highest incarceration rate -- higher then Russia.

By some definitions USA is a nation. But USA is made up of many cultures -- all cultures in the World.

that doesn't preclude the US from being a nation. it's part of our identity.

A nation doesn't necessarily need nationalism or homogeneity, as far as we know.

I think the Korean war is great source of pride for the USA - and for Britain who's forces also fought there under the UN flag with distinction. But I lived in Seoul for nearly four years and know a lot about the war.

Saving South Korea from the appalling fate of being ruled by the Kims was a noble deed.

I do not know -- US bombing and other military action killed about a million civilians in Korean War. In that time USA had much stronger white racism then now.

You say "I do not know" SCitizen. You seem to be an intelligent person and I expect you know about lots of things. But I suggest the Korean war is not one of them. You imply that that the US - and the many other nations who fought to save - S Korea wantonly killed civilians because of "white racism"; I think you owe all of us an apology. When I joined the British Royal Navy the Korean war was in progress. Many of my contemporaries wore the medal awarded to them by the United Nations.

I apologize if my views are offensive. My life experience is limited by Autism and Depression.

Our generation has no right to judge people who fought and sacrificed.

I left USSR at age 12.5. I thought that I came to the Land of The Free. But US incarceration rate is highest in the World.
