Anybody on DP notice this? My usual mix of liberal and hard right family members have been pretty quiet about politics this thanksgiving. There was no duking it over the turkey. Did you see a similar nauseated and somber tone this thanksgiving where politics was concerned?

my family is pretty much in agreement about this one, so there wasn't much political talk. we mostly just stuck to the food.

Oh, yeah. One millennium brought up politics. He was beaten to an inch of his life with a drumstick. ;)

That's the reverse of what happened to me. My dad brought up politics to the people in my age group regrettably the millennials but we didn't really share is optimistic outlook on a trump presidency. Although I am giving Trump the benefit of the doubt until he's sworn in.

Nah. It got ugly with me. My wife's family are all liberals, but low info. They know I voted trump. So it became this snide thing, at first, till I confronted her sister about a comment she made about racism. Which started an argument between me and five members of her family. It was civil but....hard, I guess I would describe. Like, a high stakes poker game. Nobody shouted, but neither were any of us smiling. Her sister was crying by the end of it.

But I'll not be derided or labeled a racist because I voted for Trump. Period. Meanwhile, it should be noted, half that family all live at home still, despite being aged from late 20s to early 40s.

Like....you're 40, single, and live with your mommy. Spare your lectures, lol.

We had predecided that political talk was off limits, which held. I was though about the least fun Thanksgiving I can remember in part because of the tension, in part because we had to time shift it to last Sunday, and in part because of 2 poorly trained dogs(not mine) being in attendance.

Didn't have Thanksgiving with family, had it with work colleagues. I don't believe politics came up, aside from my pitch to a few of them to work the Trump victory tour with me.

You are giving him the benefit of the doubt until he is sworn in.

What do you think you will see on that day?

You are not going to wait until maybe the first 100 days pass?

Exactly.

Losers have nothing to say to anybody. I mean loser in this election. Maybe in other ways too.

Well I already see a lot of problems but he doesn't really start to do anything until then.

Exactly so the day he starts to do something is when you will take back your benefit of the doubt.

Something doesn't seem right about that.

We pretty much celebrated Trump.. Sat around talking about why we were so glad that he got elected..

This was an EXTREMELY thankful thanksgiving due to that AND our personal landmark family achievements this year.. Great things!!

Went to my neighbor's house, because we don't have family close by. It was mostly Mexican people and Muslim people. I actually met somebody who came to the country illegally from Mexico in the 1980s. He has family and teenage son in the US now. His son is a US citizen, and said his son cried the night Trump won. He is afraid of losing his dad. A lot of people said they cried when Trump won. A lot of people were in agreement that Trump is racist, and talked about how it's easier to be tolerant of racism on some scale but once you have kids it gets harder. It's hard to watch a child learn to navigate, and teach them to not talk about their differences around people. Some people are only comfortable around you if you play into being just like them, because some people don't want to see race or differences in other people. I know gay people deal with the same issue. As I have often heard, "I don't have a problem with him as long as he doesn't talk about being gay or remind me he is gay."

Did you tell them by by?

I live in a northern state, and as such, I don't feel over run by Latin immigrants or illegal immigrants. I do have empathy for the family in all honesty. I can't help it.

Not a peep politics wise. Everyone was one big happy family.

I would simply mention how lucky we are that the founders created a system for a peaceful transfer of power from one administration to another.

And anyone under 26 can shut their pie hole since they have no clue as to what a good economy is like, and ecomomic benefits of participating in it.

Yup. One big fappy hamily!

We have as follows at our Thanksgiving Dinner

A White unemployed narcoleptic who's on disability who had to drop out of his pursuit of a p.HD.
A White millennial female who's fast on her way to working into middle management.
A Black professional who's a friend of the family and has a nice White Collar job.
A White 60+ woman who's owned her own business for over 30 years.

Not a single Hillary supporter, all ambitious, all working individuals (except the unemployed narcoleptic). Yeah, you pretty much have to be live at home liberal who retreats to a safe space to support Hillary, because everyone I know with a job or who wants one thumbed their nose at her.
