There is dangerous talk these days by those who have the ear of some at the highest levels of government. Earlier this week, Carl Higbie, an outspoken Trump surrogate and co-chair of Great America PAC, gave an interview with Megyn Kelly of Fox News. They were discussing the notion of a national Muslim registry, a controversial part of the Trump administration’s national security plans, when Higbie dropped a bombshell: “We did it during World War II with Japanese, which, you know, call it what you will,” he said. Was he really citing the Japanese American internment, Kelly wanted to know, as grounds for treating Muslims the same way today? Higbie responded that he wasn’t saying we should return to putting people in camps. But then he added, “There is precedent for it.”

Yes, we have one, and the new administration wants to send "bad guys" there.

As for the "left", was it a leftist who said, “We did it during World War II with Japanese, which, you know, call it what you will,” ?

Actually, 2 Democratic Presidents interned foreign born residents during a time of crisis, Woodrow Wilson during World War 1, and FDR during WW2.

Wilson required 250,000 German immigrants to register with the government and receive special ID cards that they had to carry around at all times or risk being jailed.

Some 6,300 such (German) aliens were arrested. Thousands were interrogated and investigated. A total of 2,048 were incarcerated for the remainder of the war in two camps, Fort Douglas, Utah, for those west of the Mississippi, and Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, for those east of the Mississippi.

FDR was even more strict on German immigrants:
During WWII, the United States detained at least 11,000 ethnic Germans, overwhelmingly German nationals.

So no, the historical use of detention of migrants in the US is not racially motivated. Excluding the stories of what happened to German immigrants during both world wars may be racially motivated however.

If the liberals were really so concerned about internment camps they'd have petitioned Obama much more vociferously to live up to his promise to shut down Guantanamo Bay. Notice how none of the liberals are clamoring for Obama to shut it down now before Trump gets sworn in?

Democrats aren't even actually opposed to ridiculous wars like Iraq and Afghanistan! Code Pink, which was featured heavily in the media during the Bush years, suddenly packed up and ceased to exist when Barack Obama became president in 2009.

Obama kept us fighting in Iraq for another 3 years after he took office, and we're still fighting in Afghanistan today.

I guess pointless wars are fine when a D is in power.

Did you hear Trump on this issue, or read his words as I posted them earlier?

Do I really believe he will send all of the Muslims to internment camps? No. Did he say that there was a precedent for doing so? Yes. Is it a possibility that he will follow through on his statements? Hard to say. He's made so many absurd statements that it's difficult to know.

There actually were German immigrants who sided with Nazi Germany and plotted attacks against the US during WWII. These Germans might have represented a small fraction of the overall number of German migrants, but our government felt the need to protect American citizens against another Pearl Harbor styled attack.

We've seen after 9/11, that our government no longer cares about keeping average Americans safe. All they care about is securing new voters and laborers.

I've found that many partisans are for something until it gets adopted by the opposition. Then all of a sudden it becomes hated. Just like how conservatives were for single-payer until it got taken up by liberals. Just like how liberals hated unnecessary war until it became cool for Obama to do it.

Orwell was right: we've always been at war with Eastasia...or was that Eurasia we were at war with? I guess it depends on which party is in power.

I never said that. The establishment DNC and GOP have held hands on this issue. If you haven't noticed, the recent presidential election results were in fact the American people telling the establishment wing of both parties to take a flying ****.
 
George needs to calm down. Talk by some PAC chairman is just talk. How about we wait until we see if this is ACTUALLY something that might be attempted before we start pushing the panic button?
