"Fake News" is the new bugaboo dreamed up by liberals who are desperate not to have to face their own inadequacies.

By trying to delegitimize votes for the likes of Trump, Le Pen, Wilders, and Grillo, or for causes such as Brexit or the Dutch referendum on Ukraine’s association agreement with the EU, as being the products either of external manipulation or of some other form of false consciousness, our elites are refusing to even countenance the underlying causes fueling these sentiments....

Both Brexit and Trump were manifestations of cascading failures of the governing elites of the Western world, who pushed too hard for universalistic values and grew fundamentally disconnected from their populations. Saving liberalism will require elite introspection and a deeper understanding of our current crisis of governance. Self-satisfied assurances that anti-establishment voters are clueless—that they didn’t understand the significance of their vote and will now change their minds, or that they could be educated if social media sites simply promoted the right news outlets—are borderline suicidal.

Fact check after fact check found almost nothing Trump said while campaigning was true, he made up stuff at an astonishing rate and his supporters just don't care and his campaign CEO and now adviser is a guy who ran a site that is a lie factory but his supporters don't care.

In the realm of politics there has always been lies, half truths and just plain bull****, but there has never been a Trump, who's supporters live in an alternate universe in terms of facts.

Blatantly false stories come up on this site at an astonishing rate, so to just dismiss the notion of fake news is preposterous.

Could be fighting fire with fire. Remember for 8 years, our POTUS lied directly to the entire citizenry on a regular basis. Don't think there wouldn't be some blow back.

I fail to discern well between "false news" and "biased news," and they both seem egregious to me. The Mainstream/lamestream/Media lies about Syria, Libya, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Ukraine, etc., ad infinitum. Nobody complains and pretends these same media are fountains of truth and an objective diary of our times. Bullcrap! This would be a good swamp for Trump to drain, but they'll use him by publishing flattering stories irregardless of the truth. If Trump follows the War Hawks/MIC/NWO/CIA agenda, we will continue to suffer from extreme propaganda instead of objective truth. I hope he has advisors that can filter the truth out of the media. Like picking the fly crap out of the pepper.

I wholeheartedly acknowledge that there is false news coming out at an alarming rate. I read a NYT story about "HILLARY'S BOLD VISION" when everyone knows here vision is anything but...

Washington Post churned out 16 negative news stories about Sanders in 16 hours after he won in Michigan.

And even now, on this forum, there's a large thread about the "scandal" that Ivanka Trump had the gall to meet with Shinzo Abe. I get it. The MSM is churning out false news stories at an alarming rate. I see it every day.

Almost everything done by PBS was very well done. Washington Week was particularly exceptional in it's reporting with the late Gwen Ifill. She was a treasure and will be sorely missed.

There was a big buzz in the right-wing media about a child sex ring Hillary Clinton was involved in.

This was a fake story. But for some reason, liberals who point out that it was fake are just stubbornly refusing to see the bias in the media or whatever.

Right-wingers just refuse to acknowledge such stories were circulating. Well, except the ones dumb enough to believe it...
