I wasn't here in 2008 but I know there are more than a few of you that were. When Obama beat McCain did people come unhinged to the degree that they are over the Trump victory?

Good GOD this has gotten ugly!

Edit: I am speaking about the DP site and not the country in general.

No, they didn't.

Where were you? I know you are not 8, so, is it a secret?

Oh, curious, did you miss those 8 years since? The answer is obviously; yes the right has been perfectly gentlemanly in all their actions and words in all that time, see you are all caught up now. Welcome to America.

Uuhh, yes. Absolutely they came unhinged.

It's usually a good idea to read the entire post before responding.

I remember those days. The conservatives on this forum were not unhinged at all, but were rather subdued to the point of appearing resigned. There were a few major supporters of PALIN, but for the most part it was not a big deal at all.

;)

Oh, so sorry. So did you go to another site?
I joined this site in 2012. Prior to that I had never been a member of or even visited a political debate site.

How would you know that if you didn't even join until 2013?

Oh wow. I have been doing this since it was even available as a "recreational sport", waaaay back when. First on a local newspaper site, then a smaller National site and then a couple of bigger ones, one being about the biggest there is. I like it here far better than most, the mods are fair and do not over use their gavels and for the most part the posters are a step up from what you get on many sites, at least based on what I have seen here and around the web.
Anyway, back to the topic....

In 2008, I didn't vote for either candidate. Did a write in. Therefore, I didn't have a pony in the race and figured we were screwed no matter what. But yeah, conservatives were melting down in droves, sure that Obama would usher in the "End Times". In 2012, Obama had become a sane and rational candidate, Romney was also sane and capable, so I breezed through it thinking the country would be okay either way.

I've never seen an election with two candidates who were so reviled as this one. And I've never been as frightened of an election result as I am now. Bad ju-ju, all around.

I was on a different site in '08 and yes, the "End of Times" was a common theme. Actually, both sides were freaking during the campaign. The left was hysterical about Palin and even with all the nasty stuff said about Trump and Hillary it paled in comparison to what was being said about Palin. On the right we were doing OK until the birthers kicked in. I'm pretty sure that the Shroud of Turin wasn't analyzed as much as that birth certificate was. There was also an absurd amount of analysis of "Dreams From My Father" which was supposedly ghost written by Bill Ayers.

Y'know, now that I think about it, the 2008 campaign may have been crazier than this one for political forums but the aftermath of this election is WAY beyond what we saw 8 years ago. Back then, other than the birthers everyone pretty much shut up until the Democrats pushed the minimum wage bill and followed that with Obamacare.

I remember you then.

and I remember the trashing that was heaped on her; I am usually a fan of SNL, but they went to far with her. And that trashing continued until just a few years ago it was not uncommon to see a Sara Palin thread in most forums.
