Will the Democrats block the president who lost the popular vote or will they kowtow like they did when the last popular vote losing Republican took office?

I think they bend like soft rubber. No one in the D party is firm or has any spine. That's why they are such losers.

Kneejerk obstruction, in the vein of the GOP playbook, would be a mistake. They need to block Trump where he needs to be blocked (and there will be many such places) but they also need to be thinking about where they can work with him.

WTF has Harry Reid been doing the past 8 years, playing footsie?

Ah ha! So being a Democrat is genetic?

I would hope the Democratic Party folds and is never heard from again.

Nobody "loses" the popular vote in a Presidential election. You see, nobody is interested in winning that, unless they are confused or very poorly informed.

Do you mean will they be more loyal to the country than to their party? That remains to be seen.

I was against OWS, I was against Bernie, I now have to admit I was wrong. You fight anger with anger, not with a Centrist crony whose husband ushered in bad trade deals.

If those Dems truly believe Trump's policies are bad for America, they better grow a pair and obstruct every single thing he tries to do. And, then, put forth some good strong progressive candidates and try taking the country back.

It makes a good rallying cry though. It's not like the GOP ever stuck to facts. So, why should the D?

They screwed up when they didn't sign on with OWS and channel all that anger to counter the Tea Baggers. Huge mistake. It cost them dearly over the last four elections. I hope they learned from it and unleash the far left.

Looks like a few are already taking to the streets.

Yep. But it doesn't mean that one need accept the stupidity.

The D got trounced on Tuesday: state, local, congress, president; it was a clean sweep by the Republicans. I cannot find a single area in the country where the Democrats made gains.

They have few options. Obstruction is probably their only one. And, I suspect that if they try it, they will lose again in 2018.

I believe they need to join with Trump, who is not really a Republican. D's could join his populist movement promoting the good of the working class. I doubt Trump cares if those workers are black, white, Latino, straight or gay. His goals are to clean up the mess--and, IMO that effort is colorblind.

Democrats gained seats in both the US Senate and in the US House of Representatives.

Yes, I'd prefer they not follow the McConnell model on this. Block on issues where they have majority support, try for compromises on divided issues.

Trump's instincts clearly seem to swing economically liberal. Might as well capitalize on that.

My mistake. Yes, 6 seats picked up in the House; 2 in the Senate.

It looks like they also picked up a bunch of seats in the Kansas state legislature. So, not all is lost. My bad.

Its okay. The news was pretty bleak.

Well, I'd like to think it's not all about "spine" and "balls." There's also brains. One strategy might be to just let the Republicans do everything they want to do. If it works and improves the overall quality of life for most people, without unduly harming anyone, then great! They showed us the way, and we should adjust our thinking. If it doesn't work, and everything collapses, then hopefully it'll be pain people remember long enough to change national politics permanently.

Let's say I am cautiously optimistic.

I like his plan. Clean up the worst of the inner cities so they are safe again; bring jobs back so everyone can work, and get them to work even if they don't want to; instill some national pride so the only out for so many is no longer escape through meth and Oxycontin; take care of our vets; beat back the powerful special interests.... I like all of that. But, how realistic is it that one man can do it---and, if he can, how dangerous is he?
