Just like how church was separated from government, business/economics should be separated from politics. The strong influence of corporations is so obvious in our government that many experts conclude that we have an oligarchy instead of a democracy. So I demand that economics be entirely separated from politics and thus the distribution of resources and wealth can be more just.

Screw the top 1% rich!!!

I have no problem with people being rich. Hell, I'm rich by many metrics. But people shouldn't be able to buy political influence. Why should the Koch brothers or Soros have more sway over a Congressman than that Congressman's own constituents have?

I don't think that would work for a number of reasons. A major one is the fact that economies only work, when the rules are well conceived and robustly maintained. Another major hindrance is the fact that besides making rules there is a category of goods that government produces more efficiently than the private sector.

a really really naive question

The question may be naïve but the general idea of getting money out of politics so corporations cannot buy politicians isn't a bad one.

no but is different from the OPers topic.

The only way we'll ever get money out of politics is when politicians stop taking the money. This is a matter of personal morals and ethics. We don't need laws...we need better politicians. In fact, laws won't do the job because immoral and unethical politicians will always find loopholes in the law.

Example: The Clintons.

Because Soros and the Kochs have the cash to bribe/pay off those congressman. That's why.

Define economics in this contest. Are you saying business = economics? Money = economics? Wealth = economics? What about non-corporate monied interests? Are those ok ?

What would a political system that was entirely divorced from economics look like? Would political institutions not enforce property rights? How about patents? Would they not consider the needs of commerce when building infrastructure or developing education systems? Would you be able to drill for oil or natural gas wherever? No worker's rights? No environmental regulation? Would there be no FDA monitoring the safety and efficacy of drugs?

How would divorcing the government from its influence on the economy make wealth redistribution more just? What worldly example do you have to support that idea?

Big businesses should not be able to directly influence policy making as much as religion should. The voters should not be overshadowed by corporations.

Supply proof that they don't already.

People really overestimate the power of the religious lobby these days in favour of underestimating the corporate nature of our current government...

What about political contributions from Unions?

So we also shouldn't be able to regulate corporations or tax them? Its a two way street. If they can't lobby for representation, then we can't tax them.

I hate how corporations try to dodge taxes...

Those experts are dumbasses. Decisions are made by voting. The people who make decisions, are chosen by, wait for it, VOTING. Did a corporation force you to vote for candidate X or Y?

But yes, economics should be separated from govt. The less power the govt has and more individuals have, the better off we would be.

Well at least you're consistent. The issue is that rights can't be withheld due to people you associate with. Corps and unions are associations. Individual rights aren't forfeit just because you join a group.

I would lump them with corporations.
