A guy looked at my Corvette the other day and said I wonder how many people could have been fed for the money that sports car cost.

I replied I am not sure, it fed a lot of families in Bowling Green, Kentucky who built it, it fed the people who make the tires, it fed the people who made the components that went into it, it fed the people in the copper mine who mined the copper for the wires, it fed people in Decatur IL. at Caterpillar who make the trucks that haul the copper ore. It fed the trucking people who hauled it from the plant to the dealer and fed the people working at the dealership and their families. BUT,... I have to admit, I guess I really don't know how many people it fed.

That is the difference between capitalism and welfare mentality. When you buy something, you put money in people's pockets, and give them dignity for their skills.

When you give someone something for nothing, you rob them of their dignity and self worth.
Capitalism is freely giving your money in exchange for something of value.
Socialism is taking your money against your will and shoving something down your throat that you never asked for.

I've decided I can't be politically correct anymore.

Ya, it's from an email, but it's certainly not bull**** and I fully agree. It's the same argument I make about the gun industry ...or any other product.

who cares? it's your money. Corvettes are cool and will be around far longer than any corolla

you're part of society
You implicitly consented
The social contract
Investment in the future
Investment in children.
Children
You don't want women to have birth control
You don't care about old people
You don't care about poor people
You're selfish
You're greedy
Taxes pay for things I don't want too

I love the excuses.

True, the Vette is an enduring concept. The crazy thing is that a Corvette will perform on par with a Ferrari for a 5th of the price.
But, the ones that care are the "poor me" brigade, mentioned by Henrin, below.

Exactly right.

I am obviously biased.

Stealing this.

without the freedom to starve in the gutter you're simply a slave.

Lovey, toss another bundle of cash on the fire I'm COLD

I am obviously biased.

Ok, but an illustration would be nice.

Stealing this.

You are most welcome.

Every time some liberal bozo tells me that the gun industry is evil, yada, yada, yada, I point out the fact that thousands of jobs are created from the manufacture of guns, ammo and all the related industries that spin off of that....feeding thousands of families who then have money to spend on everything else.
Furthermore, people that own guns are not any more evil than the people who buy Corvettes. Some people do bad things....with both, but constitute only a fraction of those that own such things.

I'm not sure how corvettes feed people. I've sat in several and there was no food. Hell, I even went with a buddy in his corvette once to buy a burger from Sonic and he wouldn't even let me eat in his car.

So no food from corvettes I'm afraid.

A slave is an unarmed man or woman. A Free Man or woman is armed and the decision to starve in the gutter, in the USA, is pretty much up to the motivation of the individual.

Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! Great sarcasm.

I've always said when a man is down, KICK EEEM!!!

Gives eem incentive to rise above himself.

I too drive a vette, though I'm assuming mine is a bit older than yours.

You two are addressing two completely different things.

Capitalism =\= Corporatism.

The principle being expressed here is the same idea behind a consumption tax system. The words greed and selfish typically are viewed in a negative context but there are many benefits to those qualities.

Striving to be the best and have the most motivates people to excel. This country has done the world a great disservice by allowing it to be shamed into abandoning the merits of capitalism.

Not trying to bash on the left because i think they have good ideas too but the big flaw in their thinking is its fosters complacency and we are not advanced enough to allow that to become the norm yet.
