Why didn't the Republicans elect Trey Gowdy?

I liked Gowdy as a prosecutor in SC. I followed a few cases he handled. I used to live in Greenville-Startenberg area. So I still stay abreast with some of the goings on there and always pick up on any sensational murders or missing person cases that go on in that area. Trey was very effective.

He did get his clock cleaned in the Benghazi hearings though.

I don't know enough about his views to completely support him yet. But he seems like a statesman and very impressive. I just think he's far more likable than Trump. Maybe he's still considered to be too young, or maybe he has some hidden secret that won't pass vetting. Dunno.

Statesmen, I suppose. He strikes me as genuinely principled, at least from what I've seen on YouTube clips, and that may be very one dimensional.

Hard to say how he would do on the big stage. But, he shows up a few times in a few true crime videos as the prosecutor of record. He's quite likable in those--assuming you (generic you) are a law and order type who sides more with victims than the alleged perps. I definitely side with victims.

Seems like all Gowdy is trying to do is hold the Executive branch accountable. I say good on him.

And that's his purpose as a congressman. I always watch Congress grilling some poor executive that is sometimes just trying to do what the President has ordered him/her to do, and the Congressman just seems to grandstand and deride the bureaucrat for the sake of it. But Gowdy seems to keep it civil and respectful while still asking the difficult questions and insisting on eliciting the truth.

Agreed. He doesn't seem to descend into the personal, much to his credit, as many of the others on the congressional oversight committees seems to have a penchant for. I attribute this to his experience as a prosecutor.

Well... Giuliani was also a prosecutor, and that guy is an ogre. But, you're right; maybe Gowdy learned his temperament as a professional officer of the court.

The two roles these people are fulfilling are two very different ones.
While I don't know for sure, I suspect that Giuliani would be more like Gowdy in the courtroom than he is on the campaign trail.

I feel like Giuliani would be a complete ass no matter where he was.

Do you feel that Giuliani acquitted himself well during the 9/11 crisis in NYC? Or was he an ass then as well? In your opinion.

He's an egotistical, pompous, self-serving asshole. If I wasn't clear enough before.

Not everyone strikes everyone well. Fair enough.

To answer your question more directly, after 9/11, yes, he was a stoic leader. He stood up to the task of being a good mayor and rallying the people of New York behind him. He did his job well.

But I think he was self-serving and just being a politician. When I watch him on Fox News it makes me want to barf.

By getting Comey to admit that she lied under oath 7 times?

I thought that lying under oath was perjury, a felony. Anyone care to hazard a guess why this charge isn't being filed against Hillary?

If I perjured myself in front of Congress, they would find me in contempt and have the Marshals kick down my door and arrest me. I'm not sure why bureaucrats get another standard.

Quite true.

It was a rhetorical question, and a demonstration that there are two levels of justice in this country now. One that applies to Hillary (probably all the political elite), and one that applies to everyone else.

I'm open for another forum member posting a clearer example of how corrupt and how badly broken DC and the political elite are, when measured against the constitution.
