So this is how the Republican party commits suicide

Letting Breitbart take demagogic control of the Republican bid for the presidency has given United States citizens the opportunity to show just how much it disdains the ignorance and aggressiveness of the extreme right. It is also the mistake made by GOP officials that will fracture the Republican party and sound its death knoll. Americans have long memories, and this election will not be soon forgotten for the utter disgrace it was.

Perhaps this is a good thing, in that it will prevent such displays of embarrassment in the future.

They didn't really "let" anything happen. They pushed against Breitbart-style rhetoric and their constituency pushed back harder. The party was overwhelmed by the openly extreme right. I disagree with the long memories thing. Hillary will bring it up when it comes time for re-election, but a lot of Americans will be able to flip a switch and pretend like Trump never happened.

What in the world are you talking about? The voters have short memories and apparently you do too.

Remember all the way back to 2013 when the govt shutdown was largely blamed on republicans and then just a year later they won a big midterm victory.

It seems you forgot that the voters all 14 million put Trump where he is today.
He beat 16 other republicans.

The utter disgrace is Crooked Hillary who lied for over a year every time she was asked about the private server and e-mails that were destroyed.
She put our national security at risk for years by allowing Top Secret Code material to be placed on her private unclassified server.
She could not tell the truth to the American public and still can't. She received "Clinton justice" after Bill Clinton paid a visit to the Attorney General
in a aircraft parked on the tarmac at Phoenix Shy Harbor airport. A 30 minute visit just to talk about the grand kids! Hillary's get out of jail card!

The aggressiveness of the extreme right? lol. The left is far more aggressive than the right could ever hope to be.

Every time the Republican Party has a bad year liberal pundits crow about the end of the party. It's nonsense.

As people suffer under President Clinton I think that they will gain renewed respect for the Republicans. Nothing helps Republican prospects more than a Democratic President who thinks he/she has a mandate to go left.

Looks like an economic recession is coming. Just in time for the new President, and most people already hate her. It should be fun to watch.

I might as well ask if the Democrats are going to survive their good fortune.

Its not like EVERYONE IN THE NATION didn't warn them.

They destroyed their bed, now they have to lie in it.

I have to disagree on the long memories. Americans are notorious for their short memory span. All it takes is a new hot news story to replace the one that was hot and the old hot news story becomes ancient history to most. The Republican Party has been in worst straights than it is today. Today the GOP makes up 27% of the electorate. Back after Goldwater in 1965 the Democrats outnumbered the Republican Party 51-25. In 1966 the GOP gained 47 seats in the house elections and 4 senate senate. In 1968 Nixon was elected president. After Watergate and Nixon resignation in 1974 The Democrats jumped to a 46-21 advantage of the Democratic base over the Republican base. Yet by 1980 the Republicans had gained 13 senate seat to take control of the senate and Ronald Reagan was elected president.

Today the Democratic base has a 32-27 advantage. Perhaps after Trump the Democratic base will become larger and the GOP base shrink. But give it two years, 2018, this election will have become ancient history and new worries will replace those that exist today. The fact is each election is all about the candidates provided by the two major parties. The candidates provided this year are disgusting. Clinton is seen in a negative light by 53% of all Americans, Trump by 61% of all Americans. A quarter of all Americans, 25% dislike both major party candidates and think both are disgusting and do not deserve to occupy the Oval office. This election is all about hate, which candidate is hated the least wins. Not that the majority of Americans want that candidate to be our next president, they don't and that is backed up in poll after poll.

Elections are all about the candidates, any other Republican other than Trump would have beaten Hillary Clinton. Any other Democrat would be 15 points ahead of Trump at this point. Our two major parties nominated the two most disliked and unwanted candidates in the history of this nation. For that both major parties belong on the trash heap of history. They both failed America big time. Its no wonder more and more Americans are leaving the two major parties and becoming independents, independents has risen from 18% during Eisenhower to a high of 42% today. Independents continue to grow, the two major parties continue to shrink.

Yeah, and if a recession hits she won't have the Fed to bail her out. They shot their quiver in 2009 and haven't gathered up the arrows. The only option they would have is to print money and that hurts everyone who doesn't own property.

So, all the right-wing talk about weak liberals is just bull****?

You will have to provide examples of what you mean. Liberals are good at politics only because they're good at appealing to people. Beyond that they are completely worthless and are to the most part tyrants.

The GOP thought the far right of their base and vicious conservative media were their allies. They were wrong.

The GOP has laid down with those dogs for years, now they found out they have woke up with fleas. No surprise really.

The free-stuff party appeals to people? Who'da guessed that?!

Yes they do.

Being labeled irredeemable and deplorable by someone who just might be the next President of the United States will likely never be forgotten.

Letting Breitbart take demagogic control of the Republican bid for the presidency

What?

No, what has led to the downfall of the Republican Party is their incessant pandering to the dumbest, least informed, least educated, and most fearful and superstitious social conservative Americans. The entire primary wasted by pretending "Obama has destroyed the nation," and by repeating over and over and over how "I will defeat ISIS, no, I will, no I will defeat ISIS, no, me! I WILL DEFEAT ISIS!" By pumping the anti-abortion rhetoric until people are about to vomit. Too much time spent appealing to social conservatives. They stood up there and publicly sacrificed their own credibility, again, voluntarily, seemingly intentionally.

They keep drumming up a bunch of premature excitement for who they think is going to be the next rockstar Republican that everyone loves, like Reagan was. Palin. Nope, idiot. Jindal. Nope, Kermit the Frog can't give a speech without sounding like a kindergarten teacher. Trump! Yeah right. Bachmann? Nope, bat**** weird. Ben Carson, nope, bat**** weird. Cruz? No thanks to the creepy preacher with the punchable face. Romney or Rubio? Dead inside. Fiorina? Maybe if she'd held any elected office before and didn't go floridly psychotic with the anti-abortion rhetoric.

It's been so pathetic and so painful to watch. They just need one single intelligent, articulate, no bull**** person who can appeal to reason, doesn't blare the war horn all the ****ing time or constantly appeal to fearful religious dingbats, and who has at least a little bit of personality and charisma, and isn't a clown or a gaffe machine. There are 150 million people to choose from, why is that so hard?
