DP in recent months should be called DP Tabloids. What I an seeing are totally unsubstantiated nonsense. What happened to talking about what each candidate wants to do for the people of this country? No one here discusses issues, just total nonsense! Just wow!

Why talk issues, neither candidate has viable answers to the issues, besides the sleazy innuendo is so much more titillating. We are Freakin Doomed!

I think the posts reflect what the candidates are talking about. Trump talks about rigged election, Clinton's emails, Bill Clinton's alleged past behavior with women, "crooked" Hillary, that he'll see to it that Clinton is jailed if he wins, the Wikileaks release, Clinton's being mentally unstable, Clinton being physically unhealthy, how disabled people are not to be taken seriously, how women look, taxes, etc.

Clinton talks about Trump's unstable temperament, her emails, health care, Syria, taxes, Trump's failure to pay taxes for years, Trump not releasing his tax return like all candidates in recent decades, etc.

Umm. Maybe it is because both candidates are doing the same thing? I'm not even going to discuss the ridiculousness of Trump but people expect more from Hillary. She came out of the convention saying that she is going to run a positive campaign and talk about what she wants to do for the country and ever since she walked out of the building it has been a constant stream of Trump did this, Trump said this, Trump's supporters are deplorables, etc. etc. She almost never talks about what she wants to do for the country.

How does it compare to the months after you joined (Jul 2012)? I wasn't here then, but things do tend to get a bit nuts on political sites in this phase.

I know posters on other sites that were friendly before the 2008 election and have hated each other since, this time around will be no different. Sadly we forget we are all fellow citizens stuck in the same boat and where this Nation goes is where we are all going, it is not going to go well no matter how Nov goes.

The forum seems merely to mirror what is in the news for both candidates.

I joined way back when Obama first ran, after seeing him in a local town hall. I told my friends at home, he was charismatic and he would probably win. Back then I was really into debating, and had to research political policies like crazy for this forum. Otherwise, rather than be insulting, the old time debaters here could be annoyingly condescending. Anyway, I no longer have the energy for late hours of debating. And now there doesn't seem to be any actual policy issues to debate anyhow. I basically limit myself to snarky comments.

I don't have much energy for this election cycle either. It's depressing.

It's what some message board veterans call "silly season". It has been like this during campaigns since I've been message boarding and that goes back to the Clinton years. Very few people are the least bit interested in having a civil conversation about the issues and ramifications of the current election or engaging in honest debate, let alone cordial debate. It is mostly blind partisanship, personal insults, however thinly veiled to stay within the rules of whatever board, canned talking points and who can get in the best zingers. It will last for awhile after the November election and then everything will return to normal if past elections are any indication.

The few people who do wish to actually discuss what the candidates will bring to the oval office and the ramifications of the election are in very short supply and they are mostly drowned out in the cacophony of assigned or adopted talking points intended to derail anything of substance.

Take courage. It won't last forever.

I'm just stating a fact. She has no positive campaign and she does not talk anout what she would do for the country, hence threads here from both sides reflect the candidates themselves. The OP is right.

other than her braying about how much she cares for children, her campaign commercials (and that of her attack dog=priorities USA) is all about pandering to offense takers and whining about Trump.

of course its hard for her to claim she got to where she was from something other than her husband so I can understand her reticence to talk about what she had accomplished

Generally, each election, I post voting records for the candidates. Or at least, a history of achievements, especially if it's in office.
