Hmmmm.... I know why...
Anyone guess why Mississippi has the lowest state IQ? And Louisiana? Mississippi has the highest black population by far.
the pattern is states with a High African American population are lower in IQ average.... because on average African Americans have a lower IQ. If you notice, all the white or asian heavy states are towards the top and heavy African American states are towards the bottom...

This is the same case when people try to say conservative states have a lower IQ.... nooooo it's that conservative states have higher black populations than other states.

And it makes sense, because black people voted for Hillary over Sanders.

It's not racist or anything, just a statitical fact, and it doesn't say anything about an individual who is black.

I would think the average IQ is very similar. IQ is different than "smart" .... unless you think people who live in Mississippi are born less intelligent or something.

No. I think you'll notice that almost all of the bottom states are red states, starting with Kentucky on down. Nice fail. Truly superb.

California gets a pass due to its large immigrant population/ESL programs. The rest are mostly dumb redneck states.

So I did a rough calculation and I found that we may both be right.
So, looking at various different studies the average IQ of Asians in America is around 104. Average white IQ is 100. And Average African American IQ is 85. In order to make this easier, lets use the "other" as 90 IQ...which is the average IQ of Hispanics. These will not match the state values exactly obviously...but it will give a good Idea about the contribute a states ethnic population could contribute to the states IQ. I was not able to find reliable Hispanic population % so it's all grouped into white. I think both states have minimal hispanic white populations anyway.

I'll use your example. You say to compare Vermont to Mississippi. So Vermont has a white population of 96.8%, 0.9% Asian, 0.5% Black,1.8% other and according to the statistic above it's average IQ is 103.8.
So lets calculate in according to average race contribution.
96.8(white contribution)+0.936(Asian)+.425(black)+1.63(other)=99.791 IQ

So now lets calculate Mississippi's race contribution. So Mississippi is 59.1% White, 37% Black, 0.9% Asian, 3% Other.
59.1(white contribution)+31.45(black)+0.936(Asian)+4.167(other)=95.653 IQ

So from race contributions alone Vermont has a 4.138 IQ advantage. In the statistics above it has a 9.6 advantage... so it does seem that there are also other factors in play, but I do know that African American did vote for Hillary the majority of the time, and there is a correlation with lower IQ states being high African American populations.
