[h=1]Russia Warns US Not to Intervene in Syria, Threatens to Shoot Down Any Airstrike Attempts[/h]
Russia has warned the United States not to intervene militarily in Syria against forces loyal toPresident Bashar al-Assad, threatening that it may shoot down any aircraft attempting to launch strikes.
In a bluntly worded statement, a spokesman for Russia’s defense ministry warned that Russia and the Syrian government had deployed sufficient air defenses to block any potential attacks.

Who exactly are our allies and enemies in Syria? Russia? Al Assad? ISIS? Seems it would be a good idea to know just who is fighting whom, who the bad guys/good guys are, and what the likely results of intervention might be before launching any attacks.

It is interesting that Putin would say that. Unless he knows something surprising about the Man that Can. I would not think old MtC would go for Assad's throat now that the risk is obvious, when he could have done so with impunity 2 years ago. Of course, wider sweeps of the world might accept the necessity of ending the thing brutally now and the UN might be closer to accepting responsibility to protect after all the torture and mass murder. But at this moment Syria is more of a problem for Putin than for the US.

So why is Putin making noise, if not for the home audience and provocation. He needs his people to think we take him seriously even if it as only as a mass murderer and war criminal.

Putin will prop up Assad even if he has to flatten every Syrian city to make it so.

Putin has created a Russia/Iran/Syria/Hezbollah ME axis.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Putin next decides to bomb cities in Yemen from air-bases in Syria and Iran.

It is, and we need to let Putin solve his own problem. Time to step back.
