Trump Suggests That Soldiers Who Suffer From PTSD Aren’t “Strong”

Donald Trump on Monday suggested to a room full of veterans that soldiers who return from war suffering from PTSD are not “strong” and “can’t handle it.”

The GOP presidential candidate’s statement came during a Q&A at the Retired American Warriors Pac. Some of the questions were about the suicide epidemic in the military and criticism of the Veterans Administration (VA) for falling short on providing veterans with the mental health treatment they need.

After saying there are around 22 veteran suicides a day, Trump explained to the room of veterans what PTSD was.
“When people come back from war and combat and they see maybe what the people in this room have seen many times over, and you’re strong and you can handle it, but a lot of people can’t handle it,” Trump said.

There was a silence in the room after his statement, and people on social media were quick to express anger toward his comments……………..

Who wangled 4 deferment so he would not be drafted…….

Trump has been blasted by social media……… and once again demonstrates he does not possess the human quality of completion to be Commander-in-Chief......
Or the temperament needed to be President of the world's most powerful military force......

The military and veterans use to be sacred to the GOP and Republican voters. Not anymore I guess. NO matter how many times Donny Trump insults vets, POW's, etc. 40% of the Republican base still supports him. and defend him and make excuses for him. The racists have really taken over the party.

Win or lose, but especially if Trump loses I don't see how the GOP does not split apart. The true Republicans, the social moderate Republicans, the proud of the Vets and the Military Republicans, the true fiscal conservative Republicans don't have a party anymore. This current GOP is unrecognizable.

Really sad.

ON the mark..............and proof that I made the right decision to leave the party because they nominated a recovering drunk who had done nothing except squander other peoples money before the age of 40......... shirked his military duty .........and only redeeming quality being "life of the party" and apparent moron

Like everything else for Trump, I don't think he actually means to say that PTSD suffering soldiers just aren't as strong, but it sure sounds that way when you don't think about what you're saying. A better way to put it is to talk the soldiers up, express how tough they are and just how tough their missions are, and that it could affect anybody and that we need to ensure they get all the help they need. You would think such an intelligent guy would have figured out that his words have meanings by now.

First, soldiers today are all volunteers. If you can't kill a teenage girl with a bomb or AK-47 without cringing before she kills you or your platoon buddies, don't volunteer. This job is not for you.

One of the problems is that the recruitment process in based on lies and that touchy-feely "be all you can be be" ****. To many of those "kids", serving is an adventure, a video game and a carrier move.

Second, if what the US troops do in Afghanistan is so likely to give them PTSD, what about the death camps survivors who saw thousands being murdered every single day to the always-present stench of burning bodies. Those people never knew if today is the last day of their lives. Day after day. And, then, they saw parents walk their kids into gas chambers every single day. By today's standards, all the camp survivors should end up in mental institutions for the rest of their lives. Nothing like this had happened.

What about the cops collecting dead bodies in the American cities - some smelling bad from decomposition? What about the nurses in the emergency rooms of the inner city hospitals seeing all the half-alive bodies clinging to life and dying right in front of them.

You don't have serve to know that war is hell. I have never spent a minute in a NAZI gas chamber but I do know what these bastards did and that I will never voluntarily speak to a German.

Crude or not, Trump is correct.

As they did by getting my grandson out of jail for getting in to a tussle with Singapore police............of course he was sent home asap on first transport to US.........(At the time he was a student on a school-navy sponsored practicum.....)

"Starting today, the U.S. military will pay for gender reassignment surgery for transgender soldiers, a program that could cost up to $8.4 million a year.

The Defense Department's policy states that if a soldier's ability to serve is "adversely affected by a medical condition or medical treatment related to their gender identity," they are eligible for reassignment surgery or hormone therapy, subject to a commander's approval for the timing."

I wonder (1) how many gender reassignment surgeries for transgender soldiers are done in China and Russia, (2) how are you planning to win a war with women, gays, lesbians, and TG's on your side against the Chinese, Russians or ISIS?

And (3) why would anyone want to go to that ****hole to fight the Taliban fanatics, risk everything and get PTSD as a payback? It's not like the risk-reward of going there is a secret.

So I am not surprised that PTSD and suicides are so common among US veterans.
