How much closer to that movie's characters can the Trumpers be? And, the Trumpet himself, take away skin color, and we see a potential president who is virtually identical to the president in Idiocracy. After all, in the recent debate, Trumpy actually mocked his opponent for "being prepared."

Are we an Idiocracy? I'm saying we sure are awfully close.

Your logic is valid for either of the leading candidates.

It was already proven beyond the shadow of a doubt when Obama got elected, twice. Duh

And the 8 years before that, sadly as someone said, either way this applies and not only to the candidates, the dumbing down of America is nearly complete.

Not being a liberal I can generally keep movies separate from reality but I would consider the movie "Being There" as being far closer to reality than the comedy referenced. "Being There" was a tragedy with some humor. That is what we're facing now with both major party candidates. Tragedy with a touch of humor. Who couldn't laugh at Sen. Clinton racing away from reporters in her van or Donald Trump with a merkin on his head.

How in the world do we put a man in the Oval Office who thinks NATO is a shopping mall where the tenants aren’t paying enough rent to the U.S. landlord?

How do we put in the Oval Office a man who does not know enough “beef” about key policies to finish a two-minute answer on any issue without the hamburger helper of bluster, insults and repetition?

How do we put in the Oval Office a man who suggests that the recent spate of cyberattacks — which any senior U.S. intelligence official will tell you came without question from Russia — might not have come from Russia but could have been done by “somebody sitting on their bed that weighs 400 pounds”?

How do we put in the Oval Office a man who boasts that he tries to pay zero federal taxes but then complains that our airports and roads are falling apart and there is not enough money for our veterans?

How do we put in the Oval Office a man who claims he was against the Iraq war, because he said he privately told that to his pal Sean Hannity ...

We are an idiocracy...that's how.

I don't think Trump will get enough time in office, let alone enough done, to cause any real damage.

I doubt he'll win...but, the race sure is a lot closer than I expected it to be.

I generally agree. However, this election brought it to the extreme.

The idea behind the movie was biologically we would breed out intelligence. The flaw in that reasoning is that fails to account for how culture proceeds far more quickly than biology. So we have people who are perfectly intelligent and capable of using their intelligence, but their cultural views drive them to disengage it to fulfill more primal urges.

The moment he became President, the damage is done. The damage for America as a nation.

When I heard that General explain why the military leaders came out to support him, something about Trump surrounding himself with the best people to make sound decisions, all I could think was:

"President Comacho: We've got this guy Not Sure, my new adviser, he's really really smart, he's gonna fix everything and make the plants grow!"

I guess the question that begs to be asked is. What came first, the pandering to those of the lowest intelligence or the low intelligence itself?

The average IQ is 100. So, those of us who sit a reasonably healthy notch above that figure--although, of course, far short of being MENSA Candidates---we still have to remember that there are a whole lot of people with far lower cognitive ability. Popular media, entertainment and the tailored messages of the politicians are all geared toward people who are much dumber than anyone with IQ over, say 120.

In a similar vein, though different in many ways, is the difference between those with a few bucks in the bank and the masses who owe more money to someone than they have on hand. A person with, say $100K in a slush fund investment account, is not going to relate very well to the concerns of someone who struggles to pay the water bill--and, vice versa.

What a load of crap. The damage to America has already been done by the established politicians and their corporate cronies. All of which support Hillary.

That makes a lot of sense.

From day one it'll be an up hill battle for Trump, as few of the Democrats in congress will work with him, and I'd be guessing about 1/2 of the congressional Republicans won't either.

I figures it's going to really put his deal making abilities to the test to try and form some sort of consensus and actually get something done.

No.
The comparison between the two are stupid.

You don't think the damage has already been done? You better get a clue.

You don't think the established politicians and cronies are all supporting Hillary? You really need to get a clue.

The country was founded by business, for business with the express purpose to do...wait for it---business.

A Trump victory would just be another drop in the bucket, albeit a big one.

This country was founded by revolution not business and for all your Capitalist braying the number one economy in the world, the one we owe trillions to is, wait for it --- COMMUNIST China.

Seriously people.
You think this is some indication of "idiocracy" do some basic research.

This kind of fear mongering nonsense is nothing new.
If you believe it, you've bought the advertising.

You should be questioning who the real "idiot" is.
