The real "welfare queens," the military

No. I was about to be evicted, and none of my friends could offer me a place to stay. Enlisting in the Armed forces and shipping out literally two weeks later was my only choice for three meals and a bed at the time besides for prison

So what you're telling me is that when you so low, and none of your friends would help you, the military gave you a home and now you spit in their face. Amazing gratitude.

He hates the military, but ironically he will need them to implement his Socialist Utopia where everyone's rights are taken away in the name of the greater good.

Nah all you need for that is to convince the majority it's for their own good and to get actual socialists elected. Coming to a White House near you

I am a veteran myself, and I know for a ****ing fact that I DID NOT FIGHT FOR FREEDOM OR SAFETY! I joined because there was no other legal opportunity open to me, and I got the **** out as soon as possible. During my stint in the Army, all I ever did was clean some desks, sweep the floors, and iron my uniform. And yet, I got paid more than any retail worker, not to mention the dumb and blind respect of idiots who have brainwashed by the military industrial complex to treat all people in uniform as "heroes." Most of my fellow soldiers and officers hated me for speaking truth to power, for making it clear that WE were the real welfare queens, mooching off taxpayer money while doing NOTHING for the good of society.

Even after somebody gets out of the military, they are still mooching off the taxpayer dollar by using the GI bill to pay for their college, while the majority of college students actually have to work (often times several jobs, and balance those jobs with class and studying) to put themselves through school.

The next time some tea partier talks about hating "welfare queens," ask them if they support the us military. If they say yes, they are hypocrites, plain and simple!

I WAS going to say something here, then I saw that little word under your name, so I will not say one thing.

I have heard this once before on another forum. Their sig read "In the military? You're a welfare queen! You haven't fought a real conflict defending this country since 1945!"

Yeah we rely on drones mostly, and never duke it out with any actual threats, but i still find this insulting. So you didn't work hard. I didn't work hard at a certain internship. Was i a welfare queen? Yes, the US government is too broken to responsibly deal with the mass of 18-30 year olds who can't find a living wage, so they just keep renewing the military budget and expanding prisons. It's hard for me to fathom you understand this, yet you call yourself a welfare queen for pursuing the one avenue available that isn't poverty wages. If there were other opportunities, you would've pursued those. That isn't welfare queen! A welfare queen does everything possible to avoid getting off the couch. Even basic training goes beyond that

The GI bill, yeah, and the downside is you're 3 years behind them or whatever. Hillary wants free college, would everyone be welfare queens then? I lifted barely a finger in high school and was given free college through grant $ from the school itself. Am i a welfare queen? I didn't even have to iron a uniform

You weren't a hero and wish you weren't treated as such. I certainly agree with that. But the reality is a large number in the military do bust their asses in some way. Some of them are even fully willing to risk their lives and their heart is in it. A few do carry out dangerous missions. You are just ****ting on them because you can only look at your own experience

In other words, you were a dirtbag with no work ethic and a crappy attitude, who laughed at the opportunities Uncle Sam provided you all the way to the bank.

Can't say I'm surprised to hear that you and your fellow service members didn't get along.

Unpleasant to contemplate, but too damn true.

Not true at all....respectfully said, OK?

For every troop on the front lines there are 10 more behind in support.

I did some flying for sure, but later after I fought the "war" with a multimeter and a soldering iron fixing equipment.

The guy making PBJ sandwiches in the galley has an important part in the conflict and is an important link in the chain regardless.

The key to ANY job in the military is to do it well and do it to the best of your ability.

What the difference is, is the fact you can't quit and you can't go home.....and sometimes, everyone you see wants to kill you.

And you forgot to mention that folks on welfare are at much greater risk of dying a violent death than people in the military.

The reason they had you cleaning out desks & sweeping floors?

That is because they saw in you, what everyone sees in you on here.

Hmm... perhaps you should wonder why so many others, including yourself after a brief enlistment time, have managed to make other career choices. It seems that an attitude adjustment, job skills, education or training must have been acquired during your enlistment since you (suddenly?) found other options after your enlistment was over. ;)

I feel really horrible about the $2000.00 a month the government direct deposits into my account. They have been doing it for almost 20 years, and they just won't stop.

Not many jobs let folks retire at the ripe old age of 39 (or so). ;)

Think about it.

12 months x $2000.00 = $24,000 per year.

20 years x $24,000 = $480,000

I have wasted almost a 1/2 mill on beer, and boats.

The OP has a right to be mad.

We know Ganathapy, you were an army engineer.

He was an Army engineer? And spent much of his time cleaning? Something does not add up, retired Air Force here, troops who spend all day cleaning are doing it for a reason. Could be they screwed up and its punishment, or they could not adapt, and are cleaning to keep them busy while there discharge paperwork is processed, which can take a few months.

OMG

Full body slam

Made me chuckle, good one

I am guessing it was a very short enlistment, we both know the type.
