Rut Roh! Trump raids his charitable foundation to pay his legal bill.

Oh wow...

I need to start a nonprofit so I can use other people's charitable donations to pay off lawsuit settlements, buy advertisement for my business, and purchase personal things like a portrait of myself.

Typical. Trump supporters will proclaim "pay to play" with the Clinton Foundation with no real evidence but let us watch the mental gymnastics they jump through with actual evidence he used his foundation to pay some of his own bills. Pathetic.

Donald Trump spent more than a quarter-million dollars from his charitable foundation to settle lawsuits that involved the billionaire’s for-profit businesses, according to interviews and a review of legal documents.

Those cases, which together used $258,000 from Trump’s charity, were among four newly documented expenditures in which Trump may have violated laws against “self-dealing” — which prohibit nonprofit leaders from using charity money to benefit themselves or their businesses.

brief snippet from article...........

In one case, from 2007, Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club faced $120,000 in unpaid fines from the town of Palm Beach, Fla., resulting from a dispute over the size of a flagpole.

In a settlement, Palm Beach agreed to waive those fines — if Trump’s club made a $100,000 donation to a specific charity for veterans. Instead, Trump sent a check from the Donald J. Trump Foundation, a charity funded almost entirely by other people’s money, according to tax records.

BTW I lived in WPB that is one obnoxious flagpole probably why all commercial flight out of the airport fly right over his resort...

"according to tax records"

Which could and probably would sink the USS Trumpkins if they ever saw the light of day.

It's no wonder he has a dozen tax lawyers protecting his 1040's.

Only a dozen?

If he did something illegal, he needs to step up and address it. I would say the payment got garbled going through Hillary's server, and came out of the wrong account. :lamo

How many lawyers keep the Clinton Foundation going? Bet you it is more than a dozen.

Can you post the details?
Apparently I've reached my current allowance of WAPO articles and they appear to be a stickler for that kind of thing.
FYI.
Search the title of the article in Google and use their link.
That way Google is the referrer and not DebatePolitics. You then should be able to see the whole thing.

Thanks.
Any link that sent me to directly to WAPO was blocked but something called the Portland Press Herald carried what I will assume is the entire WAPO story.
I believe any source that reprints the WAPO story would work.

In any event I'd like to see Trump's response if there ever is one.

Thanks.

What I suggested usually works for such sites.
An ad-blocker could also prevent access.

This was the WAPO site itself for any piece I tried to link to from the man page.
The page faded and then told me "You have 0 free articles left this month".
Helluva way to run a news outlet.
That kind of thing never happened to you?

Like I said, search the articles title in google and use Google's link.
You could also try clearing your browser cache and emptying your temp folders.

Where are the "what a smart and ingenious business man" comments?

Now we know not to contribute to foundations operated by presidential candidates. At least he and Hillary share something in common.

Not actually true, but never mind, a snark is a snark...

The allegation against Trump probably isn't true either. But, never mind, a snark is a snark. This is the season for personal attacks, not facts. Perhaps we will get back to facts next year.

Here's how you see it. Right click on the link. Select "Open Link in New Private Window."

Ta da!

Don't say I never did anything nice for ya.

;p

Actually, Hillary is accused of accepting donations in exchange for political influence whereas Trump apparently just likes to avoid taxes and to use other folk's money for his own advancement. Not sure which is worse.

Thanks for the effort but ... nope.
What did work was linking to it from a WAPO email they sent me that listed a number of their articles.
Apparently they don't like unsolicited cold viewing of their articles in excess of their allotted number of such viewings per month.
Can't say I understand why but there it is.

Don't know why it didn't work.

It works for me all the time. I far exceed my free views by about the first week of the month, and the remainder, I just open up the private window.
