Kaine: Pretty sure the Catholic Church will accept the progressive gospel on same-sex marriage - Hot Air Hot Air

Okay, so Trump panders to evangelicals and they go apoplectic claiming he is calling for theocracy. But Tim Kaine attempts to pander to LGBTQRSTUVWXYZ Catholics, in Hillary's name, by claiming he's "pretty sure the Catholic Church will accept the progressive gospel on same-sex marriage", and.....silence.

Is this guy a joke, or is he a joke? Not a trick question. Does anyone actually think Kaine believes the Catholic Church is going to change 2000+ years of Church doctrine? No, of course not.

A question for Catholics. Should Tim Kaine be excommunicated for these comments?

“My full, complete, unconditional support for marriage equality is at odds with the current doctrine of the church that I still attend,” Kaine said at a dinner celebrating gay rights. “But I think that’s going to change, too.” …
Let’s start with Kaine’s set-up on this issue. He refers to the Catholic Church’s position on marriage as “the current doctrine,” which makes it sound as though it was a recent development on a changeable practice. In Catholic theology, though, doctrine doesn’t change, even though practices can and do. Doctrine, once revealed in both scripture and the magisterium (a fancy word for teachings by the doctors of the church) and accepted by the Pope and the synod of bishops, remains unchangeable. Acknowledging it as doctrine contradicts the pretense that it is changeable at all.

I'll be totally surprised if the Catholic Church actually accepts same-sex marriages, that's for sure.

But that's very unlikely to happen anyways.

It will depend a lot on how long this pope is pope and who the next pope or two is. This pope has already shown a shifting stance on homosexuality, urging for better and more humane treatment of homosexuals.

While that's still a far cry from accepting same-sex marriage, it's at least a very large step in that direction. I don't know if the Catholic Church will ever fully change their stance on same-sex marriage, but they certainly are already changing their attitude about it.

Here's what should be the attitude of every politician: Separation of church and state. We the government recognizes it for marriage and tax purposes. The church does not. That's fine. Neither affects the other. Now, I have work to do that IS my business.

Of course they will, the Catholic church is a business and it wont turn away people with money for very long.

Which is why I could care less about the religious defintion of marriage.
