Interesting that a Romanian got arrested an extradited but I'm guessing it's still Russia's fault, despite there not being any proof of it.

Hacker 'Guccifer' extradited from Romania, appears in U.S. court | Reuters

A Romanian hacker known as "Guccifer" who posted unofficial emails sent to then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on the Internet was extradited from Romania and made his first court appearance in the United States on Friday.

Marcel Lehel, 44, is charged in a nine-count indictment that includes three counts of gaining unauthorized access to protected computers, the U.S. Justice Department said in a statement.

According to the indictment, Lehel "hacked into the email and social media accounts of high-profile victims, including a family member of two former U.S. presidents, a former U.S. Cabinet member, a former member of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff and a former presidential advisor," the statement said.

Oh...and no matter who hacked it, or if it was leaked, it's still all true.
 
One less hacker - let's hope he gets what's coming to him.

Wouldn't be unheard of. Frank Abagnale (of Catch Me If You Can fame) became a check-forgery expert for the FBI after he finally got pinched.

A lot of hackers, counterfeiters, forgers, etc. offer their skills to the government in exchange for lesser (if not completely commuted) sentences.

I'm convince that Guccifer was some Romanian dude that got arrested and not some super secret KGB agent for Russia.

Of course it doesn't, because it makes your stretch look silly. I'll rephrase. Russia using a dude that could connect them to all these high-profile hacks and they are just going to leave him out, high and dry, where he could get snatched up and prove everything that they've been accused of. Hell, if you believe that, then Russia would have just killed him to close the loop, as they get accused of doing all the time.

He's not a Russian, though. He wasn't in Russia either as far as I can tell, so it would be much harder to hit them even if they wanted to.

They would have had tabs on him for a while now. So they are diabolically inept now as well? Hey, it's not out of the realm of possibility, I'll give it that much, it's just very unlikely. The likely story is that it was just some Romanian dude that got caught for doing it and plead guilty, because that's what happened.
