I was rolling towards my 18th year at ATT like I was on skates . . . 47 years old and just 7 years away from hitting the Gold Service Pension.
Understand that I'd just watched loads of people retire from this company like they were floating away on balloons.
I couldn't wait for my turn . . . that's all I had my sights on when , , , one month prior to my 18th anniversary
the market collapsed
I had no clue what that actually meant as I'd been about as hands off with my 401k as you can get (self payback loans notwithstanding)
but everyone around me was behaving as if they'd lost their lives were over , , , scared me to death , , , I didn't check my
account for over a year , , , but when I did , , , I had all my money back , , , very happy, but didn't know why.
Now, 6 months into forced early retirement (union busting hacks) I have some understanding but can't explain how the market came back like
that when supposedly , , everyone had just lost most of their money. The lady in the second link lost 80% of her savings.
I know the bailout wasn't sent directly to people because I got no check.
I'm sure this is some waste-of-time stuff for you guys but can you help the first timer understand what happened and whom I should thank.
Thanks
btw ,,,, awesome sight and posters
