About an hour before Donald Trump made his joint statement with Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto, a strategist in Trump's extended circle saw success on the horizon.

"I bet they have a nice meeting where they both explain their positions and promise to talk further — it doesn't have to be any more complicated than that," the strategist explained. "If [Trump] just has a calm, behind-closed-doors meeting, has a photo taken, looks presidential, and gets out of town, that's a big win."

Of course, Trump has in the meantime embarrassed the Mexican and hurt the man's political standing badly. But hey! Maybe they had talked about doing just that and everything is fine.

If you mean it was a huge win for more lying by Trump.. then sure it was a huge win.

He got caught lying yet again...

It appears DJT had a successful trip and meeting with Nieto. Of course leftists and their media will denigrate DJT's success with their usual low energy limited thinking, but that's to be expected. When the left spends their day in a constant state of fear and anger, we really can't expect anymore than that.

You know your candidacy is in big trouble when a photo op and a closed door meeting are a "big win".

He didn't have to meet with Trump. If he risked embarrassment, it's only because he chose to.

Very much so.

Meanwhile what is going on with Hillary? She was invited to meet with him as well (and probably got her meeting scheduled first). Yet, according to her website, no meeting with the President of Mexico is scheduled. Instead, she is booked with more cocktail parties, private receptions etc. or other events seem in front of small, pre-selected audiences. Kaine handles the larger, truly public events alone.

Maybe Hillary is subject to mental breakdowns?

Perception matters a lot. At the end of the day, Trump's status got elevated from "presumed loser" to "quite possibly a winner".

But by her declining to meet, that probably seems "presidential" to the left. Anything with a D behind it seems presidential to the left. Cigars and oral in the oval seem "presidential" to the left, as well. Again, that is if there is a D behind, or in this case, in front of it.

You see the president of mexico calling trump a liar as a good thing?

not true, a liar is still a liar and when the president of mexico calls trump a liar your attempt to define that as a win is absurd

Trump's meeting was a great success, he is being "Presidential" while Hillary does nothing. Trump went to Louisiana being "Presidential" while Hillary did nothing. Trump is out there discussing the topics, Immigration, ISIS, Boarder security, Drug, Arms and Human Trafficking with The Mexican President. What is Hillary doing?

What's he discussing? He just says things like "I'm building a wall, and Mexico is paying for it" and some other nonsense. He's not discussing anything, he's just throwing out words he knows will get play because they are ridiculous.

If you want someone talking about issues, thinking about the issues, then you have to turn to Gary Johnson.

He spoke with the Mexican President for hours, they discussed the topics, what has Hillary done?

As for Johnson, he has 0% chance of winning so nothing he says matters. I know you have to vote your conscious but don't pretend that Johnson is relevant to this election in any way.

It looks like she is in hiding.

She didn't go to LA and now she didn't go to Mexico.

And even the Mexican President contends what was discussed. So yes, he "spoke with the Mexican President for hours" but that doesn't mean anything productive came of it. Nothing productive did come of it. Mexico laughed at us for Trump, Trump just pissed off another politician of another country, and we've gotten no where.

Trump is not going to win either. Johnson is polling high and can have an effect, particularly if he were allowed to participate, which he won't be because Republocrat control will not allow for political competition.

Trump will loose exactly for things like this stunt with Mexico. Furthermore, Trump is an absolute embarrassment. The world is already laughing at us because of him and he's not even President.

Whether or not Trump and the President of Mexico agree on what was or was not discussed during the meeting is secondary to the status that the meeting gave Trump.

In meeting with Trump, the President of Mexico acknowledged that Trump could win the election and that his views on immigration matter. This is the win for Trump, not accomplished diplomacy. Trump needs every win that he can get.

Still more than Hillary has done, would it make you feel better if Trump had pulled an apology tour in Mexico as Obama would have done?

Trump may still win, it's not a done deal, but Johnson? Not a snowballs chance in hell, it's a shame we have the republocrat system but that is the reality deal with it.

Do you prefer Hillary over Trump?

It would make me feel better if Trump used his damn brain, filtered what he said so that he would be diplomatic, wouldn't embarrass America almost every time he opened his mouth, and presented himself as more than just some loud-mouth, egotistical, reality-TV personality.

But he doesn't.

Trump may still win, it's not a done deal, but Johnson? Not a snowballs chance in hell, it's a shame we have the republocrat system but that is the reality deal with it.

It will take some major **** ups by Hillary for Trump to win. And I cannot abide Hillary or Trump. Both are unmitigated disasters waiting to happen, both can only harm the Republic. I will not support the degradation of the Republic any further.

So I don't care what you think Johnson's chances are. He's the only candidate who is right for the job, who will help the Republic, so I'm going to vote for him.

The Mexican President has a 74% disapproval rating so maybe he figured he had nothing to lose?

Trump didn't make a fool of himself like he usually does so for him I think this visit was a win. At least it didn't hurt him.

The adults among us dont care for his lies

DJT and Nieto without any doubt exchanged thoughts and ideas that would mutually benefit both countries. That's a wonderful thing. Of course the left, from their position of fear and anger, will attempt to tear that down, all the while ignoring Hilly who was out there enriching herself.

I find it strange how the leftist elites grow more wealthy while the leftist serfs are there settling for scraps. But, like in any other socialistic society, the elites always do far better than the little guy.

Very true. Then factor in that a lot of voters are not adults in the full sense of the word. Rather, they are juveniles who simply don't want another Ivy league attorney candidate reading 3X5 cards that promise everything to everybody.

Keep in mind that the whole "Mexico is paying for it." line was based on the idea that reducing illegal immigration would also reduce the amount of money being sent back to Mexico from those illegal immigrants and that was his thinking behind the statement. It was poorly stated and won't even come close to offsetting the cost of a wall, but he never intended to have Mexico pay us directly for the cost of the wall (which is what a lot of people think).
