School bans American flag from football games... 'Used to taunt' Hispanic rivals...

Re: School bans American flag from football games... 'Used to taunt' Hispanic rivals

It was not the players who were acting like assholes - it was students in the bleachers

When flags were an issue at a prior game at that particular venue, then yes, I don't have a problem with it. I would also ban weapons, KKK apparel, and anything else that has been a problem in the past. Heck, at the local high school, they don't even let you bring in alcohol (those bastards).

Maybe you should vet your bull**** news source before posting.

When will you figure out that any moron can have a website on the Internet?

You always cite these moronic websites, and they turn out to be worthless sources.

Educate yourself prior to posting.

The MSM is too cowardly or in the tank for liberals, to post many of these stories. My source was corroborated by other sources.

It's a complete garbage argument. Constitutional rights do not extend everywhere in the public sphere, they are enforced to prevent bans from the entire nation.

It's because they've had these freedoms all their lives and they take them for granted, so they don't understand what they actually mean.

Well, we better not see the Mexican flag flying then either.

I don't care what they are doing to misbehave, they can't behave at the game you cancel the game, you don't start banning everything they use to misbehave with.

Correct.

BWAAA HA AHAA HAA I'm a dumb ass! Then I'd kick those people out of the game.

Why bother, when you could have prevented the problem by banning flags?

I understand that your argument is that we should never ban the US Flag, that seems unAmerican and possibly a violation of our freedom of speech, but the ONLY students bringing the US flag to football games were doing so for inappropriate reasons. It's simply not normal for fans to bring American flags to football games. In 40+ years of me attending high school football games I've never ever (like never ever never ever) seen someone in the stands with an American flag.

Than quote the statement?

The statement from the school district
Greenville County Schools encourages and supports the appropriate display of the United States Flag in accord with the United States Flag Code. We do not condone the use of the Flag to shield unsportsmanlike or inappropriate conduct. To allow such use is disrespectful to the Flag, the principles which it represents and the sacrifices of those who have and are serving to defend it. There is no ban at the school or district level on the appropriate display of the United States Flag but using it in a manner that is disrespectful to it or the principles it represents will be addressed if it occurs.

Censorship disguised as respect for the flag?

Acknowledgement of the reality that some people try to hide their racist actions by waving the nation's flag

That's no doubt sometimes true, but it doesn't excuse censorship. The First Amendment protects repugnant as well as admirable speech.

When the actions of a person or group instigate violence, their First Amendment rights are no longer relevant. You know - the old "Crying FIRE in a crowded theatre" meme.

English, American, potatoe, potato ...

An English subject of her majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, would not be pleased if you called them American. Quoting a failed politician, Dan Quayle, is also not a smart move.

Re: School bans American flag from football games... 'Used to taunt' Hispanic rivals

two football coaches need to get their players and their fans under control

we are talking about two high school programs both from the same county/district

not one from another country

i dont give a damn what the racial mixture is on the rosters....

this is a coaching issue....and the damn coaches better clean up their program

they run the stadium steps enough, they'll get that crap out of their system

from a past player whose coach loved to use the stadium steps as "teaching tools"

Already posted this once - it was not the players causing the problem, it was people in the bleachers at a game.

It does not protect incitement to violence.

I don't think this rises to that standard, but that's why we have courts.

The school district thought there was. Do you have a source that says otherwise?

Not at all. I'm just generally suspicious of rule-making based authorities' unilateral judgments about what is "appropriate."

Feelings and beliefs count for more than mere facts, in other words

It is a fact that "appropriate" is a marker for the suppression of free speech.
