New poster, noticing a curiosity...?

I tend to think just the opposite actually. Most of those calling themselves independent seem to me that they tend to lean left of center. Most people who are right of center are proud of that and confident that they usually are seeing things more clearly than those on the left. So they will use the labels provided or be like me who labels myself 'other' because my classification doesn't appear on the list. I consider myself libertarian (little "L") or classical liberal and they do not provide that choice on the list. But I am definitely right of center in most of my personal ideology.

Considering the further Right someone is the less educated they tend to be...your post is so hilarious. I nominate it for Ironic Post of the Month.

That's some of the biggest bunch of crap I've read in a while! People on the right are confident in their fairy tale visions of Jesus and the rapture and denial of science. Yeah you should definitely be confident about delusional thinking, that will work well for you no doubt.

And a pleasant evening to you too.

I don't know. I think I might go one on one with you to see which of us is the better educated. But I'm trying my damndest to stick to my pledge to myself to not feed the trolls, argue with idiots, or engage in exercises of futility. Have a pleasant night.

Ya know...I was just commenting the other day how so many new posters here label themselves as 'progressives' and not "mindless socialist ****s". So I guess I DO see something of a trend...of sorts.

Yeah, so many "independents" tend to be lock step in line with the most conservative elements, but it seems to be their way of wishfully calling them self an individual thinker, despite the line by line adherence with the modern day far right agenda.

It baffles me how anyone who denies science can ever be called "intellectual"; if anything science denial is the antithesis of intellectualism.
You are confusing a rejection of left consensus with " anything science". Just because one does not follow what the left, the consensus and the MSM call "science" does not mean one cannot be on the correct side of science. One can look to the past, examples of Galileo and Einstein, certainly to be considered as intellectuals, who did not always walk in lock step with the monolith.

They were truly "independents".

There are intellectuals outside the realm of anything doing with the sciences as well. Can one not be an artist, a creative or other writer, an historian, a Shakespearean expert perhaps, without having any expressed or highly developed views on science... and still be an intellectual?

Certainly.

So, is it just me, or are most folks who label themselves as leaning "independent", generally conservatives who just don't want to label themselves as such? Not trying to criticize here, but it really seems to me, most folks labeling themselves as independent, have a decidedly right lean in most of their commentary. IDK, maybe it's just my MSM "brainwashing" lol.... :lamo

I'm a fiscal conservative and a social moderate who is voting for the Libertarian candidate for President. I could very easily self-identify as "Independent" as opposed to the "Moderate" I have in there now. Independent means we don't vote the way a specific party tells us to vote.

I'm also going to guess that you have absolutely no idea what a "conservative" actually is.

Okay. Now show me the poll of college graduates who are not working for the government or academia or the media, i.e. those who work and have worked in the private sector and are/were not dependent on political correctness, cronyism, and unions to keep their jobs. I think the ratios would look very different.

Sounds like someone has a hate boner for government, academia and media.

I don't hate any of them actually. But I know I made my point when you attack me to detract from my challenge to you.

I'd say so, yes.

Independents on this board have always seemed left of center to me.
