Cincinnati police are asking for the public's help in trying to identify the source of the suspected heroin behind an estimated 78 overdoses in just two days.

Meanwhile, Hamilton County officials say they will seek funding for treatment and expanded response teams.

County officials are calling the latest onslaught of overdose cases a public health emergency, and county Health Commissioner Tim Ingram says the number of emergency-room incidents over the last six days was "unprecedented."

Just a the tip of the of the pyramid of drug problems in the US.

Do you think this is isolated to the one group that the Democrats have been preaching about helping, every election, for the past 40 years?

If it was legal there would be controls on the purity and dosages and we wouldn't have 78 deaths in 2 days.

From an addict's perspective, I see two possible trains of thought:

1] It's adulterated - therefor shun.

2] It's really good **** - therefor acquire, but use carefully & judiciously.

Legalize all of it......

Yes, people who are going to use drugs already do. But your fine with all the crime and drug cartels that come with prohibition and the uncontrolled purity and dosages that kill people that use illegal drugs that on you.

Thats a interesting perspective. Its bad business to kill off your customer base so where's this stuff coming from ?

Its just a bad batch, no one is trying to kill anyone, but that's what you get when you have illegal drugs.

Eugenicists? In this case, the druggies happen to be the homeless.

There another case in LA's skid row of heroine overdoses.

Its really not intentional, this stuff is cooked up in people's kitchens with no quality control or testing then it goes out on the streets for sale.

I base this on who is buying it not the drugs in question.

AFA K2 you're right about the bathroom quality. There have been many attempts to prevent it's manufacture.

I really don't get what is going on these days, K2, Bath Salts, Flokka, Meth and Crocodil.

What ever happened to weed coke acid and heroine?

Guess people are bored with the old stuff.

Saves a lot of misery, wasted medical services and court costs.

I don't have any sympathy for dopers. I've seen way too many families destroyed because of dope and alcohol.

Damn, prohibition works so well.

As Franklin Adams put it way back in 1931:

Prohibition is an awful flop.

We like it.

It can't stop what it's meant to stop.

We like it.

It's left a trail of graft and slime

It's filled our land with vice and crime

It don't prohibit worth a dime

Nevertheless, we're for it.

Have you SEEN the Cincinnati Reds lately?

The responses in this thread reaffirm 100% why I believe that addiction should be handled by medical professionals, outreach workers, and harm reduction professionals. And these people should be the informants of public policy as well. People who demonize addicts have absolutely no fathoming what medical horrors they go through, and how the demonization contributes hugely to the continuation of the problem.

People who have loving connection, community, support, and purpose in life do not become addicts. I say that as someone who has both worked and volunteered in harm reduction for 15+ years. Addition is mainly fueled by unaddressed mental health problems, social inequities, and regionalities with failing socioeconomic systems. Mass addiction does not occur in isolation. It's always a symptom of systemic problems.

Almost 100 people dying in 2 days of overdoses is a HORRIFIC statistic and inexcusable.

Herd needs thinning.
