Hope Solo is "saddened" and will appeal U.S. Soccer's decision to hand down a six-month suspension and terminate her national team contract, the U.S. women's national team's player representative told SI's Grant Wahl.

Solo was reprimanded for calling Sweden "cowards" immediately following a shocking Olympic quarterfinal defeat to the eventual silver medalist, and she was criticized by many for the lack of sportsmanship and class, including former U.S. captain Julie Foudy.

She was on double secret probation for domestic violence and I think she recently had a dui.

It is un-sportsman like, it is essentially the same thing as that Egyptian judo fighter not shaking hands with the Israeli. It reflects badly on the team and in this case the US.
 
My guess is that there is more to this. They didn't ban her for her domestic abuse arrest so my guess is that this latest dustup was just the straw that broke the camel's back.
