Does Facebook think you're liberal or conservative? Here's how to find out | The Verge

The odd part is I have not linked to, discussed, followed a link about anything even remotely political on FB. Yet it still has me as a liberal. No clue why. Posted this because it is kinda cool seeing all the different areas they think you will be interested in seeing adds about, and you can deselect things you are not interested in(so I get no more purse adds that I don't know why I was getting).

Turns out I'm very conservative.

That was a pretty accurate guess since my posting history shows two posts since 2011 and one of those was "Happy Birthday".

You can click on the ad term and Facebook will give an explanation of why it's there. The majority of them say something like, "You previously clicked on an ad that related to this word." Which basically means that four years ago your cat walked across your keyboard and FB interpreted all the mis-clicked ads as you being "interested" in the topic.

My political keyword is,

About US Politics (Moderate) - You have this preference because we think it may be relevant to you based on what you do on Facebook.

Which is correct for my FB activity. I subscribe to both conservative and liberal FB feeds, often click on click-baity political ads, and make occasional posts about political topics that I'd bet contain keywords that Facebook is monitoring.

Because they follow you all over. If you have NoScript installed on your browser, facebook is on nearly every page of every site on the internet. If it is "allowed" then it's collecting data of a lot of your browsing history, perhaps even your posts and comments on forums.

You're in the data base matrix....and it ain't just FB

Even though I am not American the first page under lifestyle and culture for me is the page for the Democratic Party followed by the Liberal Party of Canada.

I don't use Facebook enough to have a political lean apparently. Good. I shall remain a cypher.

That is interesting thanks, when I have more time Im going to look at all that stuff, it had me as a moderate.

Interesting.

I've learned another reason to avoid Facebook and all this social media foolishness.

I'm glad they know who I am. I don't want a bunch of Leftist trash on my page.

You'll have fun if you decide to leave Facebook. It isn't easy.

It is actually trivially easy. You stop going to facebook. No effort involved.

Unless you want to stop Facebook from contacting you. If you want to eliminate your account, it was not easy when I did it.

Well, FB thinks I'm a "moderate". LOL!!

That's probably because...

1. I do very little on FB. I once uploaded a picture of a fish I caught. I have a few people I follow...mainly family members...but I rarely "like" anything they post.

2. I don't click on ads because I don't ever see them. I use AdBlock+.

In any case, who the heck cares what FB thinks?

I check facebook daily. I've been a member for quite some time and have over 3500 friends.

They have me listed as "conservative". Apparently, I clicked a like on something about Rand Paul one time. They can think whatever they like (punny). I usually like to POE myself out whilst drowing in a sea of data. It keeps Big Bro guessing.
