It seems like this election has brought out the batcrap insane. It seems like the GOP has been taken over by crazies. I identify as a moderate. I believe in a strong military, strong economy with upward mobility, rebuilding our infrastructure, helping all Americans, and planting our flag on Mars by 2030.

Has moderate America disappeared? Is it the fault of the new generation? Have they been indoctrinated with far left and far right junk? Or is it the fault of American culture? Is compassion now shown as weak? Perhaps we need TV shows with honorable heroes who are strong and compassionate!

I am tired of the assholes, religious wingnuts, and narcissistic politicians being paraded before us!

It's all Obama's fault.

Most moderates don't tend to post on a partisan political forum, nor do they tend to be as loud as people that are far right or far left. At least, that is what I have noticed.

They are screamed down when they dare speak up, look at what happens with those conservatives here that will not support Trump, there is a thread dedicated to attacking them. The sooner the Conservatives purge their Party of the nutjobs and get back on track the better, maybe then the Dems can follow and do the same soon after, time for more Parties.

compassion? You mean using people as resources to fund your interests? That kind of compassion?

Moderate America still exists. Most of them left the Republican party.

Moderate America is probably gonna hold their noses and vote Trump to avoid having the Hildabeast as president.

No one hears from them, because they've gone underground. You can only stand on your self-appointed soapbox and throw the worst of the worst insults at people for so long.

Well, the "batcrap insane" coming out isn't just limited to the GOP. All you have to do is look at the Democratic primary and related chicanery, is pretty batcrap insane insane too.

I don't think that forums tend to attract "loud" moderates ;)...many good points were made about why so I won't repeat them

I do get discouraged sometimes when I read or interact here because as a moderate I truly try to live my life that way. I like harmony, I like compromise and thus I surround myself with people who harmonize well even when their views differ wildly from mine

the way we interact on forums isn't like real time at least much of the time it isn't

I don't know if a forum accurately reflects real society

for sure it doesn't reflect the people in my world but then I sometimes feel that my world and the people in it are rare in the extreme so

First of all, more people voted against Trump than voted for him. Unfortunately, there happened to be a million candidates that split the vote until it was too late to stop it. Secondly, believing in certain things doesn't mean much. I don't think you'd find a single person on either the left or right that would say they don't want upward mobility or strong infrastructure (military there would be quibbling). Where the rubber meets the road is how you go about trying to accomplish those goals.

Secondly, in an environment where the districts are gerrymandered, and the science of getting and maintaining support via a two party system has been perfected, I think it natural that a divide will grow.

Most people are moderates and most will acknowledge that neither major party represents their views 100%. But most will also acknowledge that they're not going to get everything they want from any party or politician so they go with what they most closely align to. Moderate is not always, but often is synonymous with "practical."

But moderates aren't sexy. Being down to earth and reasonable doesn't get ratings or clicks. Acknowledging that not all things are possible and that we have to work within the limits of the system isn't exactly the viagra of political speech. Admitting that change takes time and occurs most safely in measured increments doesn't allow editors of online news media to create headlines that use action verbs like "Hillary Destroys Trump With One Sentence!," or "Hillary to Obliterate Capitalism!" or some other such nonsense.

"Politician To Introduce Legislature But Willing To Compromise On Several Key Point In Order to Get Higher Priority Program Funded" doesn't make the toes tingle despite the thundering reasonableness and truth of it.

But it is moderate ideas that quietly and relentlessly make things happen.
