Bernie Sanders Buys $600K Lakefront Summer House in Vermont

So why not put his money where his mouth is and put that money to work helping out the disadvantaged? There are lots of charities that do that and making that kind of donation could have made a real difference and would have backed his talk with action.

It was an inheritance from HER, HIS WIFE'S side, I would imagine that since she sold her families property she needed to re-invest or face a large tax bill. Since you are operating on much less that total knowledge of how much they put down and other particulars, yer just shooting in the dark, operating on near total ignorance.....like you always seem to.

He isn't wealthy, neither is she. I'm glad they have some pensions and some investments......but they are not wealthy pigs from any standpoint. Yer just making unhinged threads, detached from reality.

That depends entirely on what one considers wealthy to be. He is in (by over $50K/year) the top 20% (quintile) of US income earners yet is also in the bottom 20% of congress critters based on the bizarre defintion of wealth that is used (it excludes their home and pension values).

Well, it is her money.......and I would say that they both have spent a lifetime helping those who are disadvantaged.

It's weird how some people think Bernie Sanders' form of socialism means there wont be rich people.

No. Not weird. What's the word? Oh, right. Stupid.

If there are no rich people who will be employing the masses?

I always love it when folks confuse income.....with wealth. Since the contrast has been his with the wealth of the 1%....or the 0.1%......well no, it isn't even near comparable.....and you know better.

Don't they believe the inheritance should go to the state?

Why would you want to start to even begin to understand the political positions of Senator Sanders?

Sanders has been well paid for doing that. It's not like he's giving it away or doing it sacrificially.
I'm sorry....you are arguing he would not have made far more income in...say banking...or investments......if the wanted? She would not have done better outside of education? They gave up nothing working in their fields?

Saw that on the local news. I know exactly where this house is. Beautiful area.

I don't begrudge him a summer home. That said, I think the optics aren't very good here, and it may have been wiser to either buy it in his kids' names so it may not have been noticed, or just wait a while. A $600,000 primary residence is out of reach of most Americans, forget a third home worth that. It's not really what Bernie stands for.

He stands for the wealthiest paying their fair share. That doesn't mean that they can't be wealthy still.

Could you be any more of a disingenuous hack-troll?

In aorry. You are so right. The guy that ran ion a llatform of stick it to the rich paying cash for a 600k third summer home isnt worth posting, commenting on. Lol

Your Mao's, Castro's, Stalin's, and that clown down there in Venezuela, all those socialists like that become very rich.

Don't forget Francis Bellamy!

I think people only see the word "socialist" in there and ignore everything else. Then they run off on tirades about what they think a socialist is all about...but really they have no real clue and Bernie isn't a socialist, he's a democratic socialist, which is a different beast.

Regardless, it's all moot. Sanders isn't running.

Yet Im still paying salary and hes using it to take my property and give it to others including himself, so he can go buy multiple houses. Socialism is about social equality through centralized control of production and wealth. Democratic socialism just means the majority votes away my property instead of doing it anyway, without giving me a chance.

Bernie is a hypocrite. Shocker.

Paying their fair share isn't "sticking it to them". That's the hyperbole coming out of the right wing propaganda machine.

They were well compensated for their efforts is what I'm saying. You want to make it sound like they some kind of altruists, when the simple fact is that they are no different than the people looking down their noses at the street trash interrupting their walks with requests for help. They had an opportunity to put their money where their mouth is and choose instead to buy a 3rd home. If they truly walked what they talk, they would live a simple but comfortable lifestyle and give as much as they could, instead of having THREE houses to choose from when they ask the question "Where should we spend Christmas?"

And yet you have recited a socialist pledge for most of your life.

Are you just ignoring the fact they used his wife's inheritance? Or did you think he should donate it to the government like the socialist he isn't?

And my 6 year old types better than that, spell check is your friend.

I, as many senior citiens, would welome the difficulty of living on only $174K/year.

Presidential Candidate Bernie Sanders Is a Millionaire

Working till you're 74 does wonders for one's net wealth. Also I don't honestly know if I'd want to live off $174k per year in DC. That being said Bernie has accomplished what most working professionals would consider a successful career and retirement account.

I'm pretty sure some folk don't actually understand democratic socialism. Also, Bernie is taking your property? My goodness, that's pretty huge. Did he leave you homeless? Carless? What did he take from you? I'm sorry for your loss.

This:

I suspect that Bernie and Jane’s current net worth is about to be supplemented by a huge publisher’s advance, just as with “dead broke” Hillary Clinton. In fact, there is a very decent chance that people will actually buy a book by Sanders, so the publisher will not have to mentally write-off the advance as a political donation.

Blog: Socialist Bernie Sanders spends more than his reported net worth on his third home

A movie deal too, it is time to cash in.

Strike will the iron is hot I say.

Bernie, living the dream.

"Sticking it to the rich" doesn't mean the rich can no longer afford a $600k summer home.
