Capitalism at it's worst: Walmart's labor practices are backfiring

Sadly, someone has to do it. However, claiming they deserve less pay because it's manual labor, which is exhausting, doesn't sit right with me. It's hard work that deserves good pay imo.

But extremely low skill, technically anyone can do manual labour. That is why it pays so little. It is how demand and supply works, the basics of economics.

I can go online to Amazon and get a greater variety at lower prices than Walsmart. I stopped going to Walsmart when what I wanted wasn't there that I could get online delivered at a lower cost. THAT's business.

Bravo, have a nice day.

You think it would be wiser to spend more time and money on less choice? That would be idiotic. To answer your stupid question in smarter way, there are four grocery stores within walking distance of where I live. One is a Walsmart grocery outlet where I go the least because most of the food I buy I can get for less, mostly on sale, at the other three. With your reasoning, saying I get what I want for less elsewhere (and a little closer, BTW), is idiotic.
What are the other three, and what does that have to do with buying groceries on Amazon? I mean, you know, besides nothing.

I'm currently a full time pharmacy tech and I'm in school to become a pharmacist. Would you consider a pharmacy tech "extremely low skill?" The reason I ask is because I've witnessed multiple people be fired for being completely incompetent. Breaking Hipaa policies, filling the wrong prescription etc. etc. Even careers that require an education can pay pretty weak. My fiance is a school teacher and doesn't make jack. She stands on her feet all day and then brings work home with her. She makes as much as a police officer, which is 29k here. It's all backwards imo.

Education at it's (sic) worst. Thanks for proving the problems with education in your subject line. Maybe you should worry more about mastering basic English and less about WalMart until you're old enough to actually work there.

Placing an apostrophe in the possessive pronoun usage of "it" isn't much of a problem, imo.

For teacher sit can be a problem with the state underpaying but more likely it is that the supply drastically outweighs demand, that is what is happening here. Just too many people who want to become a teacher so salaries get driven down. But in general the higher the skill required to do a job, the less people there are with the skills, the more the job pays. A pharmacy tech is not low skill but is not really high skill either, all you need is some education at a community college. There are also probably a lot more pharmacy techs then just yourself. However if you become a pharmacist that is higher skill, and you will have less competition.

My major's graduates and interns have higher salaries than any other major. Do you know why? Because it is high skill and because it is a very small program those skills are also rare. So those skills command a premium when it comes to salaries.

Why should someone get paid a lot of money to do something when there are 10 people behind them that can also do that job and are willing to do it for less?

The other three are locals. You asked the question about buying groceries on Amazon. I gave a broader answer. Oh, I do buy "dry" goods (which could include olive oil) online, which may or may not be, but most often is, from Amazon, and is even sometimes from Walsmart.

Very true. I have two friends who thought, "I know...I'll get a teaching degree in history! I like history, so it'll be easy and I'll skate to an easy degree and big money." Unfortunately, they found out that a teaching degree is virtually one step up from a degree in liberal arts. It's dime-a-dozen. Now, all they do is whine about how they can't get jobs. Maybe it's because there are 50 applicants for every teaching job.

Now think how many unskilled, entry-level schmoes there are that are entering the workforce. These aren't people with marketable degrees. These are people whose skills involve pushing buttons on a cash register, or flipping burgers. These aren't dime-a-dozen jobs, they're penny-a-hundred jobs. It just is not intelligent business sense to overpay these kind of people. THAT'S why Walmart only pays their cashiers $10/hr (which is MORE than minimum wage, if anyone dares to admit).

A little late to reply, but I agree a pharmacy tech position is not the most skillful, but it's a pathway and experience for people who want to pursue a pharmacist career. I didn't know you can go to community college to be a cPHT? I was trained on site. The last sentence of your post is a big problem imo. People willing to do work for any payment is an issue. Have some respect for yourself.
