YOU'RE HIRED! Trump to Pick Mike Pence, Says Source

Pence is about the best possible choice of those willing to take the job. It does not help Trump much, but it does help a little, which really is about the best you can hope for in a VP pick.

What's in it for Pence? I think he will lose reelection in Indiana if he runs with Trump.

Right now 538 has Trump at about a 1 in 3 chance to win in November. Pence has a slightly better than 50 % chance to remain in the job that is his likely ceiling, or a 33 % chance of being the number 2 guy in the country with a shot at being number 1 later.

A Trump/Pence ticket is basically Palin running for president and McCain for VP. I just don't see how this is going to benefit Pence. I think Trump is going to drag Pence down, and like Palin, he could very likely go nowhere after the campaign. Palin didn't become the standard bearer or run for president.

Well Trump wouldn't attract many non-white/LGBT voters to begin with, no matter who he picks as his VP.

No he wouldn't. He doesn't seem to care about that demographic. With Pence now as his VP choice Trump is saying in so many words that not only does he not care he is giving them the finger.

Pence helps Trump............................nowhere.

And just when the Dems where about to land Indiana this fall... lol

It is a chance to get the hell out of Indiana before they run him off with a big stick.

Donald Trump is planning to announce that Indiana Gov. Mike Pence is his choice for his vice presidential running mate, according to a Republican with direct knowledge of the decision.

As Trump narrowed in on his choice of Pence, the two men spent time at both Trump's golf resort in New Jersey in early July and at the Indiana governor's mansion this week.

Only because he was turned down here...

Good to see that Trump has chosen a politician who supported Medicaid expansion under Obamacare. Hopefully Pence would stay consistent with this view were he to become VP, but let's not forget that this would be under a President Donald Trump.

Due to the tragedy in France, Trump is delaying his VP announcement.

If I understood the radio a couple days ago correctly, it is literally illegal in Indiana for Pence to run for Governor and VP in the same election. And the deadline to decide is this Friday, tomorrow, hence the rush to a decision.

I remember another son of Indiana who was given 0 to no chance of becoming Vice President. SNL made fun of him. Late night comics skewered him. The Democratic Vice Presidential nominee flat out embarassed him in a nationally televised debate.

Vice President Dan Quayle got the last laugh.

This is just to say that even when VP nominees are imperfect or downright disastrous, they rarely determine the election outcome. Donald Trump will win or lose this election on his own.

Yeah, but which ones on the list would have helped him anywhere? You could make the argument that Pence helps bring out conservatives to vote who may have stayed home. Supposedly that is why both McCain and Romney lost, although I don't personally buy that excuse. Both Palin and Ryan supposedly brought out conservatives to vote. There were some not possible VP choices who would have helped Trump but they either weren't on Trump's list or didn't want to be.

Yeah, but does Trump have any solid stances? I think he just tells people what he thinks they want to hear.

Sounds like Hillary to me. She is the queen at pandering for votes.

Palin was a fun target, but she did not by any means cost McCain the election. I am not even convinced she cost McCain total votes. I think she, like most VP picks, had a pretty minor effect. Likewise Joe Biden. Did not cost nor gain Obama a single state.

As much as I hate Palin I have to agree with this. For every vote that she lost, she gained a vote that wouldn't have been there. There was a point where McCain/Palin had pulled even with Obama in the polls and momentum was on their side, and then the mortgage bubble hit and overnight McCain was branded as another GW Bush. Palin was just a crew member on the Titanic.

It won't help get those Bernie voters that he is seeking.

There wasn't any way he was going to do that anyway with a VP pick unless he totally alienated all Republican voters.

I'm just curious who exactly Trump could pick that would appeal to non-white voters. The blacks will vote for Hillary. Most Hispanics won't vote for the Republican anyway. I can't think of anyone who would help him win those votes.

There are a lot of people in the country who are not non-white and who are not disadvantaged. We're allowed to and should have representation, too. I agree that things could be better for a lot of people, but not everyone has to make them their priority. And it isn't smart to forget about us white people who don't need/don't want government to support us. In fact, the less I see of the government, the happier I am.

Yeah. I would have to agree with that. I mean he could have picked Cruz or Rubio (I doubt Rubio would have said yes, not so sure about Cruz) but how many non-Republican hispanics were really going to vote for either one? I guess he could have picked Ben Carson but people would have a hard time voting correctly while laughing at the same time.

Pence can't run for re-election if he accepts VP so if he and Trump lose in November Pence will have to stand in the unemployment line.

In my opinion if Trump had chosen Christie as VP it would be because he wanted a lap dog yes man. I'm somewhat encouraged that his other choices, including Pence, show that he is open to more than having a yes man as VP.

Pence is the right choice.
