I once posted a thread on why I genuinely like Liberals philosophically. I would like to add one more.

They tend to make websites more fair in the treatment of disagreements.

An Explanation.

I have been a member of more than a few gun / firearms sites. Even though we are all pretty much on the same page politically, the rules tend to be very draconian and you have ZERO say in any moderator action.

One site I was a member of for over four (4) years [M14 Forum] recently banned me this month because a moderator took a set against me, then gave warning to me twice about silly stuff he did not like. I could tell right off I was being set up. It was easy to see.

At another site [FAL Files] trolls were more the norm than the exception.

Here at Debate Politics I feel it is BECAUSE we have such a diverse membership, that it is much fairer in its treatment of members.

On a gun forum points, thread bans, then points rolling off, and contesting a hit are unheard of. 100% of the ones I have been a member of, give the moderators complete dictorial powers unanswerable to anyone.

I see the one major difference is the Liberal population trying to be fair to all members.

Thank you, Liberals for making this my new internet favorite place to go.

Once a site gets large enough, it gets more democratic.

Liberalism, after all, is a belief in free speech. The forums you refer to as being unfair are probably small and populated with the pinheads who gave nothing else to do, and are the only ones who will take the "free" job as moderator, and feel their job is to moderate thought rather than behavior, rules, and post moving.

This site is almost too large with some threads going into the hundreds of replies.

Too much of a good thing, but enjoy!

That does pretty much sum up the attitudes of all of the moderators at those guns sites.

More like THOUGHT police than enforcement of ROEs.

The worst part of them is when you get on the bad side of one of them, it becomes a complete witch hunt with ZERO defense. Their actions are undisputed law.

That is why DP is so much better. I might still loose, but there is still a process, but even if I loose, the points drop off if I watch my P's & Q's for a month.

I joined two other sites later, but then said, why bother. This is the only place I got to now.

besides...I have fallen in love with Aunt Striker. It does not get any better than that!

Well, are you talking about "Libertarian" liberals? Or Progressive-Socialist "liberals?" ;)

Must be the Libertarian kind since they are more tolerant of individual expression than the other brand seem to be. :coffeepap:

I have no idea. My thinking does not go that deep, as evidenced by my posts.

Liberals before they were corrupted by power.

Although as a liberal I'd absolutely love to take some form of credit for my ideology making this a fairer place, the truth is that it's the diversity that reduces the echo chamber effect. If you were to go to an all-liberal site, you would find an insufferable echo chamber effect there, and you'd be praising any conservatives for making it fairer and more diverse.

[...] I see the one major difference is the Liberal population trying to be fair to all members.

I know this might come as a shock to some but I guess that makes me something of a unicorn in their eyes.
I am a liberal who is okay with the 2A, and I own a few guns.

Yes, I WOULD like to see more background checks, yes I do want to see the loopholes closed, yes I do think we can do more to curb the "gun violence culture" in this country and no, I will not complain if all those efforts make it more difficult for me to own guns because I know that I will still be able to do so, and I don't mind demonstrating more responsibility in owning one.
But in the end, I support the Second Amendment.

It would be difficult not to support it because I grew up around guns.
Dad had one, neighbors down the street had em, shopkeepers had em in the neighborhood, it was perfectly normal.
As a young man I lived in Minnesota and discovered the joys of hunting game animals, and the joy of eating those tasty animals. As a proprietor of a recording business I kept one on the premises to deter thieves and burglars and as a homeowner I keep one to protect my family.
And it's all perfectly normal to me. Even the NRA was normal back in the day. They were the guys who were super strict about gun safety and learning how to use your firearms properly and they hated folks who were a menace to society because of their irresponsible gun use.

The NRA I see today doesn't seem to resemble the old NRA I used to know in my younger days so I am no longer a member.
But I still have the guns.
And I still think that conservatives do themselves a disservice if they lump us liberals into a convenient box, so I search for conservatives who I can find common ground with on the gun issues, and sometimes I get lucky.

The guns are here to stay. There's three hundred million of them in private hands so confiscation is, for lack of a better word:
IMPOSSIBLE.
We, liberals and conservatives, are going to have to learn to work together and figure out a way to live with them in our lives.
I think we can do it.

Liberals are just as intolerant as conservatives.

Some. Those would be the FAILED liberals.
It is just as possible to be a failure as a liberal as it is to be a failure as a conservative.
Numerous examples of both abound.
As a liberal, I actually take great joy and find enormous amusement in pointing out failed liberals, if only because to do so not only forces me to be a better liberal, it also shines a spotlight on how NOT to be one, for others who might be verging on such failure based behavior.

See: "Most college campuses" :lamo
Kids, you're not doing it right ;)

this has 0 to do with liberals first off. what it does have to do with that all moderator actions are agreed on by other moderators.
so there isn't 1 moderator that has control over their corner of the universe.

so if you get an infraction or warning it is because other mods agreed that your post should be flagged for it.
you can contest that and state your case which puts it up for review.

however what you say has nothing to do with liberals on this board, but how the board chooses to govern moderator actions.

Liberals are just as intolerant as conservatives.

since most liberals have no idea what the definition of tolerance even is you would be 100% correct.

Liberals are just as intolerant as conservatives.

I do not believe that.

I think that Classic Liberals are the most tolerant of all political camps.

But what we CALL Liberals today, are anything but Liberal!

Conservatives are inherently trying to preserve the status quo and traditional lifestyles, ... they "Conserve" what has been working, and therefore they naturally resist change and new ideas.

What is passed as Liberals today are mostly Progressive-Fascists, who are the most intolerant, judgemental, racist, sexist, militant, manipulative, greedy, and self-serving people on earth.... Hiding in a Classic Liberal Skin!

JF Kennedy would be violently sneered out of today's Democratic Party!

Dr. King would be labeled a Race-Traitor and Uncle-Tom for suggesting any path other than Racial Preference Pandering!

John Locke, Jean-Jacques Rousseau and François Voltaire would be sneered and jeered from today's Progressive-Fascist circles for daring to suggest that anyone but a Progressive-Fascist might have opinions and ideas of merit and for considering concepts outside the narrow-minded Progressive Dogma!

Every last dram of most members of today's Democratic Party is in absolute contradiction with social contract theory!

Obama Democrats are Fascists, not Liberals!

Another great example of the Left's abandonment of "Liberal" concepts was Obama's comments about how he has his "Pen and my Phone", clearly indicating a complete contempt for the concept of the "social contract theory".

You do not have to look far or hard to find Democrats expressing Utter Contempt for the "Will of the Governed".

Consider Hillary's screeching reply, "What does it matter now!?"

Sorry, Hillary, Obama, REAL, TRUE Classic Liberals Care about the Social Contract

I think we can too. If you push aside the tin foil hat crowd on the right, and the "just like Hitler" crowd on the left, you find in the middle people who just want to be left alone and see themselves and our mutual country prosper.

I have no doubt I will die before I see "jack-booted thugs" kick in my front door looking for my guns. Even if they do, I will be powerless to stop them, and I won't. I learned long ago your most effective weapon is your mind. The rest is just hardware.

Here is another "Classic Liberal" Law Professor speaking out about the abuses of the Progressive-Fascists who are calling themselves "Liberals" in the Obama-Era:

Video: Liberal Law Professor Warns of Obama Dictatorship; Urges Congress to Act

You know things are bad for Obama when even liberals and Democrats are starting to speak out against him. Take liberal law professor Jonathan Turley, who admitted to voting for Obama, and is now warning Congress to act quickly in order to avoid an Obama dictatorship.

Turley said that there is a new model of government emerging, one in which our Founding Fathers thoroughly rejected, and pointed out that when Obama announced his unconstitutional dictatorial powers, Democrats in Congress cheered him on.

… Turley proclaimed that the Constitution’s “Separation of Powers,” established by the Framer’s, wasn’t there to protect each of the three branches, but was there to “protect individual liberty,” so that any one branch wouldn’t get so powerful as to attack individual liberty.

Turley went on to compare Obama’s reasons for changing laws on his own, without congressional approval [see: Obamacare], as almost identical to those reasons given by King James I.

Turley admitted that he voted for Obama in 2008. He didn’t say whether or not he voted for him in 2012.

“There’s no license in the Madisonian system to ‘go it alone,’” Turley said. James Madison is considered the main author of the U.S. Constitution.

Turley said that Obama was attempting to be a “majority of one,” by “ordering changes on his own terms,” a dangerous proposition.

Turley then chastised Democrats (while not saying the word “Democrat”) who remain “silent” in the face of Obama’s unconstitutional dictates, saying that their silence could very easily backfire under a future presidency.

It says a lot about how thoroughly brainwashed liberals are for their ideology when Obama can flat-out tell congressional Democrats that he wants to make them irrelevant, and they respond with roaring applause. But then, it may not matter much if they’re irrelevant, as long as they still get the fancy title, lifelong paycheck, and Obamacare-exempt benefits that come with being a congressman that loyally serves their Dear Leader.

Which just goes to show that naming yourself a "Liberal", and expressing Liberal Values and Actions are completely different things.

Most Posters who call themselves "Liberals" on this forum Act and Speak Like Fascists!

Those who are in word and deed "Classic Liberals", call themselves Libertarians.

OK, I get it...thank you.

I was only saying how nice the contrast was between here and an completely conservative website, and feel it is the Liberals mixed in that make it so.

One instance where diversity is a good thing.

I won't waste time trying to argue definitions with you except to say that anyone who uses a term like "progressive-fascist" obviously believes that everything in that Jonah Goldberg book is gospel, and I am tired of beating my head against a brick wall.

One cannot be a progressive and a fascist at the same time, it's a contradiction in terms because if you are exercising your inner fascist, you're not a liberal. You might think you are, but you've failed the most important test.

People like you also once dreamed up the concept of NEO-conservatism, another contradiction in terms, because anything "neo" cannot be conservative, it's like New Coke.

Have a Coke and a smile, and go buy a dictionary and read some history books instead of Jonah Goldberg.

On DP I think the credit goes to the moderators and staff that enforce the common sense rules and those common sense rules themselves, don't you?

Good quality moderation is of course a key aspect, but a relatively balanced mix of ideologies tends to keep one ideology from rocketing off into full-bore madness. Otherwise you get that echo chamber effect I was referring to earlier.
