Canada may be a different story. I've never spent any time there, so I wouldn't know. I meant to say the United States society.....
In which case I would say race, not racism, plays a major, over balanced role in society. The biggest difference between our two countries is that Americans talk about it incessantly. The topic rarely becomes a top news story, usually its some weird twist of some kind. It seems to me the two sides are constantly baiting the other.
And for your information I have experienced severe racism from a border guard while crossing. It has happened several times, and witnessed by colleagues.
