Are we as a nation getting much more INTOLERANT of others politically?

er uh thrilla, you posted that both sides are responsible for the current state of intolerance. You also added the caveat that if someone didn't agree with you and only blamed one side, they would have to be a moron. How you claim that's not you stating "agree with me or you're a moron" is hilariously moronic. And read this slowly, very slowly, you posted no "truths". You posted what you wish was true. I then posted a list of asinine and false narratives that conservatives obediently believed. Incredibly, large number of conservatives still believe some of them.

Now thrilla, this is a debate forum. show me one liberal narrative that comes close these lying narratives

President Obama was born in Kenya
his BC a forgery
he wants to kill old people
he's a secret muslim
the stimulus will cause hyper inflation, dollar collapse, market to zero
Obamacare will kill the economy and jobs
(put the rest of the Obamacare lies here)
the vile and disgusting stand down lies

don't cut and run, don't whine at me or about me, just attempt to show how its "everybody's fault".

do i also need to prove that water is wet?... holy cow dude.

take a step back, get your head out of Obamas ass, and look at the reality around you... everyone is being an asshole( including you and me)... not just Republicans as you dishonestly and falsely assert... it's literally everyone.

FFS sake, read the forum... there's no shortage of threads about Trump being Hitler or being a fascist or a racist, ... that stuff is going on everywhere, not just here.
hell, you even got YOUR people getting violent and disrupting trump rallies (free speech for me, none for thee!)..

wake the **** up and open your eyes, hack.

If you want to see it all you have to do is look at the footage of the Chicago rally with your eyes and mind open

I looked at the CNN story & video. The leftie protesters were protesting and chanting, but not violent. The story says one officer was hit on the head with a bottle, but it didn't say by whom or if it was intentional. But for sure they were trying to stop the rally, which is pretty darn intolerant and interferes with others' right. Which is what I said in my post, I think I was clear on that.

I've only seen the fascist comments by OTHER Republicans who support other candidates.

We have a nice young man running all over the forum trying to claim liberals are just like Hitler, so there's no shortage of it from either side.

How did Vern get anyone to disrupt a Trump rally?

It seems with this election we are close to being like the 1830's and 1840's politically.

I am 60 years old and have seen a lot. What I am seeing now is a deep seated anger boiling over from the RIGHT, and a " how dare you say that " anger from the LEFT.

As a kid, my first dealings with political bullcrap was during the Johnson / Goldwater run. I was told by Johnson supporters, kids like myself, if Goldwater was elected we would have to go to school on Saturdays.

I also remember something else. During the televised Democratic Convention in Chicago, someone from outside threw a chair in the hall and was immediately wrestled to the ground and hauled away. That was pretty much it...INSIDE the hall. Outside it was pure bedlam. The 60's had a ton of divisive issues and troubles. Even so one thing remained untouchable. The democratic process.

NOW,...for the very first time in my lifetime, some jerkwads of an opposing party completely halted a rally for a candidate they did not like.

NOW,...those same jerkwads are talking about a march from Philly to DC to disrupt the process of people voting their choice. It is 100% against the Republican frontrunner, but if you see nothing wrong with a bunch of goons and thugs disrupting the democratic process as they did in Chicago, and are planning to do soon, then I can see there being nothing but blood spilled in our future.

They flew the hammer & sickle flag during their riot in Chicago. That tells me they are complete enemies of the very process they are saying they are attempting to preserve. They are not.

The fact this INTOLERANCE is TOLERATED sets a bad precedence for our mutual future here in the USA.

Regardless of which side you are on, I feel there is more and more anger boiling over the lid on any given subject.

Ben Carson was the only candidate that drew attention to it. He said if you look at any comments section on any web page you can see about only half-way down where the insults start flying and the hate starts bubbling up.

YES, I AM pointing a finger at MOVEON.COM because they are 100 % responsible for what they do, did, and are planning to do.

They are not the issue, though and the reason for this thread. It is the deep anger I feel almost all people on the extreme edges of their political leaning that is just waiting for a trigger incident to boil over and burn us all.

Agree to DISagree seems to have been pushed aside by PUNCH YOU IN THE FACE, if you do not agree with me.

Both sides can point to examples to be used as excuses, but am I the only one that sees this being a slippery slope leading to more pointing and " ________ made me do it " type excuses? Where they feel perfectly justified in their violence?

Or has the time for talking over, and the time for picking sides upon us.

Overall as a nation i think we are more tolerant than ever before. I think politically we are more tolerant also. But it's those two things that scares the extremists so it brings them out of the wood work. Extremists, racists, bigots and over-hyped drama = news and into days media, driven by stories and ratings and not reality, those things are king. Normal people are closer than ever but the loons are losing their **** because they see that their days are numbered. Safe places to hate gays and minorities and women are getting less and less. Safe places to be totally partisan and feel everything right sucks and everything left sucks are also shrinking. Those people are in a panic and they have the media to back their panic so it seems worse than it is but normal people will over come and they will just have to get over it.

Then you need to look again.

All the footage I have seen shows the protesters throwing punches and assaulting people.

Where did you look, MSNBC?

One member here that was there had a police scanner and made a post about all the bedlam they heard over the air waves.

I think you might have a very good point there.

Some extremists can't stand the waters being still and therefore have to make a tempest where there was none.

Good point.

Your point also brings up another question. Why do people have such a hair trigger? It seems all it takes is a wink and they " go Medieval on you".

I'm just going off my life experience but I don't see the vile aggressive vitriol and partisan dishonesty in people I see daily. Yes we see it in media. On the news, in the paper and magazines, on the radio, on tv shows etc but I see very little of it else wise. When politics are discussed at work, at the school I volunteer at, at sporting events, at bars or parties, at social clubs and just with friends and family it's just not there. Most people are getting along in general with social issues and willing to listen to others and then compromise or respectfully disagree. It's the whack jobs with the loudest and craziest voices that disagree and who are being heard with media support. They get the attention unfortunately but they always lose.

Like I said it's why I feel they are all on edge because their numbers are shrinking and they are losing more and more but most people are moving towards more harmony.

You really don't know how to separate a minority from the majority and avoid stereotyping, but then again it suits your pathetic rhetoric so I suppose thinking about how stupid what you are posting doesn't enter into the equation.

yes i do.... i also hate every single nation on earth, and every single government, see if you can wrap your head around that

That fact was obvious several posts ago, and I told you so several posts ago. Glad you are admitting it now.

Now, that it is out in the open, you can see why I dismiss any criticism you have about America. You could give a tinkers damn about America.

You are just one big ball of hate looking for an audience.

You will not get one from me. This is the last time I will comment on anything you post.

I'm only 30 years old, but I can feel the "hate." I do not plan on voting for Trump, but I find it enraging to hear that people want to protest his rallies. To me, it says you're protesting his supporters and acting as though their choice and views do not matter. I may disagree, but I'm not going to go out of my way to attend a rally for someone I do not care for only to make a fellow voter feel like they do not matter...in turn making me feel like a "better person." I understand it is your right to protest, but you are kidding yourselves if you think you're protesting Trump and not his potential voters. It makes me so sour that I'm tempted to vote for him out of pure spite lol. That's terrible.

TaterTots...just as a mere social experiment, let slip you are voting for Trump, even if you are not, and then look and see how "tolerant" your friends and those around you in your age group are.

I would love to hear about it.

no disagreement here... that's pretty much what i've been saying.

How did Vern get anyone to disrupt a Trump rally?
he didn't personally ( that i know of)....

do i also need to prove that water is wet?... holy cow dude.

deflection. I asked you to support your narrative. You didn't.

take a step back, get your head out of Obamas ass, and look at the reality around you... everyone is being an asshole( including you and me)... not just Republicans as you dishonestly and falsely assert... it's literally everyone.

deflection. and speak for yourself. I'm posting clear straight forward posts. You're posting "agree with me or you're a moron" and "I never said agree with me or you're a moron" and the latest "do I need to prove water is wet?". You need to show anything from the left that comes close to the non stop lies from the right that you and yours still believe.

FFS sake, read the forum... there's no shortage of threads about Trump being Hitler or being a fascist or a racist, ... that stuff is going on everywhere, not just here.
hell, you even got YOUR people getting violent and disrupting trump rallies (free speech for me, none for thee!)..

falsehood and deflection. Threads about trump are not making people more intolerant. the non stop lies from the right the last 8 years that you and yours obediently believed and still believe did make people intolerant. I listed some of the non stop lies from the right. You refuse to address them.

wake the **** up and open your eyes, hack.

OC, you cowardly cut and run from a similar discussion. I showed you 40-60% of conservatives believe some of the most ridiculous lies spewed from the right. You just don't get to wave your hands at 40% of conservatives believing asinine, ridiculous and probably racist conservative narratives. And OC, if my rhetoric was so pathetic, you would be able to shred it instead of whining at it. See the problem. I didn't whine at this pathetic rhetoric. I shredded it.
Does throwing out the crazy 5% to paint the entire half of the country as being nuts usually work for you or are you deliberately debating badly?

Poll: Four in 10 believe in Obama healthcare law 'death panels' | TheHill

that poll was in 2012. Not much improvement since 2009

Poll: 41 percent believe in death panels - POLITICO

that's not 5%. Mmmm, what about being born in Kenya. this is from 2014

Forty-one percent (41%) of Republicans believe Obama is not an American citizen, compared to 21% of unaffiliateds and 11% of Democrats. Just over 20% of Republicans and unaffiliated adults also are not sure, but only seven percent (7%) of those in the president's party share that doubt.

Have We Got A Conspiracy for You - 9/11? JFK? Obama's Citizenship? - Rasmussen Reportsâ„¢

again, not 5%. and this doesn't help

"The number of Republicans who think Obama is a Muslim has actually increased since 2010"

A staggering number of Republicans believe President Obama is a Muslim - Salon.com

wow, actually increased. So as far as your 5% number goes and blaming President Obama for race relations, I think you said it best

I can poll people and get them to say water is hazardous to your health and I'm not talking about Flint either. Again, you keep stereotyping to paint your little picture of Obama as a victim and Conservatives as the fascists. But we know which side of the aisle is shutting down the free speech of the opposition. Neither side has a copyright on crazy. Get over it Vern.

In this thread we're discussing if the nation is getting more intolerant. I'm simply pointing out the non stop lies that a lot of conservatives still believe as to what has made the country more intolerant. And OC, its not stereotyping when I show that a lot of conservatives actually still believe those lies. The non stop lies also explain trump.

Both sides do it.

I consider the source of anything said.

When a COMMUNIST tries to tell me the evils of capitalism, and the virtues of COMMUNISM, I have to fight hard to keep a straight face.
there is bad and good in every system and until we are open to that...violence is on the way

this thread became ironic by the way

An excellent post.

The time for talking is never over, unless one prefers war and violence to peace. But, peace must be sought, it must be pursued.

When Bush & Co brought us the Global War On Terror, he stated that you are either with us or against us, drawing the line in the sand and setting the attitude that today is only worse, as you mention. On its best day, the political process is ugly and shameful, and that seems more apparent today than ever before, but that could be just the perspective of old age.

And I'm pointing out you are the typical partisan that can only see it originating on one side. It is stereotyping when you then conclude see: ITS THEIR FAULT!

"both sides do it" is exactly what I'm addressing by listing some of the more ridiculous examples of the lies from the right. You ranting "both sides do it" is in itself just another conservative narrative. While a big step from the days that you and yours thought intolerance only came from the left, it still just a conservative narrative. and what makes the lies from the right so ridiculous is that a lot of conservatives still believe them. Can you point to one narrative from the left that comes close to the level of absurdity of one of the examples I posted? Its kinda important to your "both sides do it" narrative.

LOL but all your examples are from the right. Pardon me Vern, but cut the bull.

Black Lives Matter. Social Justice Warriors. Examine what they believe and how they go about spreading what they believe and what they do when they don't get what they want.

The left has plenty to worry about before they can throw stones without breaking glass in their own house.
