Well, I don't dislike Trump. Perhaps unlike most people I understand him. He's a New Yorker.

I spent a significant part of my life growing up and residing in New York City. New Yorker's have a special way of looking at the world.

There are what; ten million people crammed into the space of three islands (Staten Island, Long Island, and Manhattan) and a short peninsula (The Bronx)? While other cities can claim some diversity, New York City finds people of all nationalities, races, creeds, etc. living within a few feet of each other in the same cramped buildings. Every day they encounter and deal with foreign languages, different customs, ideas, attitudes, etc., and they have a certain way of looking at the world that is clearly represented by Trump.

To a New Yorker every person and every situation encountered is considered an opportunity to advance themselves in some way, large or small. Life there is a never ending struggle to climb a little higher in competition with millions of other competitors. They mold their speech and actions to achieve whatever opportunity may ensue. There is no organized prejudice; every enclave like a Chinatown, Little Italy, or Harlem, is surrounded by zones packed to the gills with whoever can afford to live there. Yeah there are gangs, but seldom based on race. Every kid who lives on the block is a member of the party. As long as you are tough enough, you're good to go. You have to be tough and adaptable to deal with so many differences on a day to day basis. It isn't race or religion that sets the tone, it's money because you need a lot of it to live there.

Trump's not a fascist, communist, socialist, or a racist. Nope, he's from NYC which makes him an opportunist. It's an inherent trait of the city. That's not a bad thing BTW, because I still consider myself a New Yorker. That's why when I see excepts of his speeches I just smile to myself because he reminds me of the majority of people I used to know when I lived in NYC. He's just saying what he thinks the crowd would like to hear at that moment in time, because he's trying to sell himself to that crowd at that time.

I guarantee that if he wins the nomination he will begin to pattern his general speeches to suit a larger audience. He has to because after achieving his current goal of getting nominated, the next opportunity is to convince people to elect him. Just wait and see.

Never fear, the Donald likely hates most of us too!

A lot of people seem to be indulging in this kind of wishful thinking. Trump is a demagogue. If you vote for a demagogue, what you end up with isn't a tame spaniel that sits in your lap. What you get is a demagogue.

Great post, Captain!

And you're right.

The reason New Yorkers are the way they are, is because New York. It goes with the territory. I spent much of my life in the 2nd city, deep in the bowels of crowded urban neighborhoods not too greatly different than some of those in New York, but obviously not exactly the same because there is only one New York.

And my entire ethos is shaped (happily!) by my life's experiences in the city. I can more clearly see this now that I'm older and out of the city, and I also see it in New Yorkers. Every moment of the waking day was a competition of sorts, from catching a bus or el, getting into a restaurant, hailing a cab, or getting an item from a grocery store. It was a constant daily competition with those millions of diverse individuals all elbow to elbow with me, even in the most trivial daily tasks.

The competition of course extends into bigger things, like housing, education, and business, even moreso! And you're right: We're selling, always selling, amongst some other very good competitive salesmen & women!

And I haven't even touched on the competition for dates & mates, which might be the ultimate examples of salesmanship!

I do firmly believe competition improves the breed!

My signature is a pretty good start for the reasons on why I dislike Trump.

I dislike him because I think the strategy of playing on low information voters fears and anxieties is petty and pretty becoming of most politicians. But he takes it to an extreme. People want "different" and someone that speaks their mind but the issues he is addressing aren't even remotely close to solving our nations problems.

We need to put the "low-information voter" thing to bed. The nonstop media attention lavished on Trump means that there are no LIVs left when it comes to Trump. People know more about him than they've ever known about any presidential primary candidate. When people support Trump, it's because they know in detail about his themes of protectionism, racism, and authoritarianism. They approve of those things, and they think a Trump presidency would benefit them economically.

Constitutionally illiterate, gun grabbing, property stealing, egomaniacal lying sack of ****.

... fire away at the "DON" all you like.

I can't say I dislike Trump. But with all these kook leftists protesting, rioting, throwing rocks and so forth, he sure is gathering more support.

His skin color is that of a carrot mixed with a turnip.

His hair is that of a prairie dog mixed with a raccoon.

I hate Trump because he isn't POTUS already! He should have ran against Obama and beat him!

Contrary to your perspective I actually see Trump supporters as HIGH information voters..

To me low information voters are people that see a TV ad or something in the news and instantly believe it and agree with it.

Now with Trump if you did that you would just hate him. To support Trump means you must have looked past the propaganda to have come to known the real truth.

That is a high information voter and a free thinker.

A lot of people are put off by New Yorkers until they get to know the culture of the city and it's people. Many New Yorkers are direct, and blunt in their speech. I used to bring some of my navy buddies into the city to catch a couple Yankee's games on the weekends and it took them a while to warm up to the place. As a Boston/Maine native, I actually preferred spending my goof off time in NYC.

I don't know much about him beyond what I've read on the forums, but knowing he's been a successful businessman I've generally assumed/wondered the same thing. His current persona has been very successful for the Republican nomination, but most likely would not play so well in a general election. He's almost certainly bright enough to realize that, and will adapt his strategy accordingly. How subtly he could pull it off and whether it'll work is one question. Whether or not such a person would make a good president is another question entirely.

Classic. This is the kind of political discourse every country needs more of! None of the brain-dead knee-jerk meaningless communist/fascist/anti-American/Kenyan/Muslim crap. Let's take the edge off and get some more risible, quality insults happening!

"What we have got is a dead carcass, swinging in the breeze, but nobody will cut it down to replace him." . . . .

"But I will never get to the stage of wanting to lead the nation standing in front of the mirror each morning clipping the eyebrows here and clipping the eyebrows there with Jannette and the kids: It's like 'Spot the eybrows'."

Well let's face it, animosity in politics is inevitable. But letting it sour actual facts or important issues is foolish and in the long run probably counter-productive: Trump's success in part seems to come from playing to the ultra-nationalist demographic which 'establishment' Republican politicians have fostered through their rhetoric over the past seven years and more (or at least a good case to that effect was made by Slyfox696 in the recent Rubio thread). If there has to be animosity or hostility between parties, maybe it'd be better if politicians were aiming for outrageous insults which might get a laugh, than for dumb hyper-partisan rhetoric which will be taken as truth.

Let's stop using the word "hate," when it comes to American citizens, how 'bout?

Let's stop using the word "hate," when it comes to American citizens, how 'bout?

well since there have been death threats, there has got to be some hate out there

numerous threads, saying many negative things about him

people actively trying to stop him from exercising his rights, and the rights of people wanting to hear him.

should it have been "i don't like Donald Trump because"

Too bad there's sawdust in the transmission of the "car" he's selling. Salvage title, worn out brakes.

Trump wants to be president.

That's about the extent of his "platform".

His opinions are about as relevant as any spray tan afficionado. New jersey nightclub trash.

I wonder if any of his previous investors would vote for him?

because they're selfish, immature dumbasses

Free thinker supporting a guy that's been on all sides of every issue as it suited him, has abused immigration laws and illegals up to the point he needed to be against illegals to get the rubes to vote for him?

Yeah, real free thinkers, PT Barnum loved that kind of "Free thinking"
