A new crusade has emerged among college students who insist on insulation from the real world – now left-liberal campus activists demand safe spaces from U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents who recruit at campus job fairs.

Protesters at several campuses in Southern California and Arizona have demanded administrators cut all ties with the federal agency, and some have protested agents’ presence on campus. Students say border protection representatives make students – especially students in the country illegally – feel unsafe.

Hey man, don't bogart my safe space!

Especially students in the country illegally.

That's oppression all right.

Can someone explain to me how they enroll? Cannot the college ask for a birth certificate? And who pays their tuition?

Wouldn't that deny other students the opportunity to get preferred jobs?

I had to move when entering college, just so not to pay out of state tuition. Now go look into out of state tuition for illegals.

I had to give my university my birth certificate and SSN.

The constant bashing of universities & formal education gets a little irritating around here, but I do admit some of it (such as this) is warranted.

I am frightened by many of the rights & privileges enjoyed here by those who reside illegally. Blown away to be honest, and disgusted by the politicians who pander to them. This political behaviour in leadership is what allows the rise of the Donald Trumps of the country, like it or not.

And as an aside, this is nothing new; Harvard banned ROTC in '68 as a response to 'Nam! What a slap in the face to the boys slogging through the killing fields of those S.E. Asian jungles! :doh

State universities are based on state residency in the state.
So if a person has been living in the state for 1 year (Texas), weather they are in the
US legally or not, they are counted as a resident.
University of Houston : Residency Requirements - University of Houston
Independent students who have resided and established domicile in the state of Texas for 12 consecutive months may be eligible for Residency Reclassification. Dependent students may base residency on a parent or court-appointed legal guardian. The parent or court-appointed legal guardian, however, must have resided and established domicile in Texas for 12 consecutive months.

When my kid enrolled at a state college, he had to do a ton of paperwork, and prove that he was a citizen of our state.

I assume that private colleges can make up whatever rules they like

But they ARE letting them in, obviously. This is beyond strange.

In my time on these boards I have seen a lot of criticism of Canada and the way we do things, from "plastic money" to the fact the city of Vancouver outlawed freeways in 1969. (Traffic IS tough, but it is the most beautiful city I have ever seen)

But there is one area where we reign supreme over the US. If you are an immigrant, we will bend over backward, the current batch of Syrian refugees are getting everything paid for. But, if you are here illegal, we will give you a free ride to the border. You can't get medical treatment (you need a care card), you can't get a driver's license, you can't get married. In this city where there has been a "0" vacancy rate for 30 years, it is unlikely anyone would rent to you. If you are caught working illegally the government can fine you five times everything you have earned AND kick your ass out.

I knew a guy who came from Britain on a student visa which would allow him to work part time. He never enrolled and got a full time job at a marijuana dispensary. The RCMP came to his place of work, arrested him and charged him with fraudulently obtaining services. He was given a choice, pay it all back and get to come here some other time, or get out and never come back.

He is now persona non grata.

What is very sad about that as all he had to do was leave the country for 48 hours and apply for re-admission at a consulate. He would have been accepted as a specialty worker because of his experience.

It's really easy when you think about it. The reason, I suggest, that there is such a great problem is that too many people are benefiting too much with the current situation, which I recall was an issue when I moved there in the late 50's. Comedians made jokes about it.

So now the economy isn't what it used to be and people are griping...enter Donald Drumpf and his quick and easy solution.

Waterboarding first. After that we'll get around to the illegal's disposition within the country here now. If the illegal has any experience in wall building, that would be a mitigating factor...won't get him or her out of the waterboarding part, but perhaps another meal or two would be considered. We'll get Militant Vegan to develop the diet, so they'll be happy to leave at that point.

Why not just hire a bus or two and send them home?

What? That's way too simple. Which buses, who drives 'em, what route they're gonna take, where they're gonna stop, who provides the meals, who cleans the bathrooms, how much air is in the left rear tire, and stuff like that just makes it so difficult. What about luggage? Where do we put the chickens without pissing off PETA? It'll take years to get all that ironed out.

Hold on now ... a few hours on the wall in summer they may be wondering what happened to all that waterboarding talk.

Donald Trump rises as the smoke from the smoldering flames of the citizens' discontent with the failure of their government!

It's that simple.

Call the Waaaambulances! We have another outbreak of Butthurt on college campuses!!

Yeah...and then there are the ecological considerations, diesel for the bus all that hassle.
