Six organizations that work with Somali youth in Minnesota have been awarded $300,000 in grants as part of a federal pilot project designed to combat terrorism, the nonprofit group that is administering the funds announced Thursday.

The grant recipients include a youth sports group, a program that empowers Somali parents, an organization that plans to enhance youth employment opportunities and a group that addresses mental health issues for refugees.

Boston and Los Angeles are also participating in the federal pilot project, which the Obama administration launched in late 2014 to stamp out violent extremism.

Minneapolis’ program, called Building Community Resilience, focuses on the state’s large Somali community, which has been a target for terrorism recruiters. More than 22 men have left the state since 2007 to join al-Shabab in Somalia, and roughly a dozen people have left in recent years to join militants in Syria.

Minnesota Somali organizations receive terrorism grants

When did it become the norm to federally fund (read: bribe) immigrants and refugees who we allowed into this country to keep them from joining terrorist organizations and attacking this country?

I mean, seriously?

Should we not expect a little gratitude and think that by letting them in and being a part of America that that alone should be enough of a payment to KEEP THEM FROM ATTACKING US?

Well the reason they would a terrorist organization ids if they feel like an outcast, like they are not a part of American society. What the program does is allow them to participate in society so they feel like an active member of American society. DO you not want immigrants to integrate and become part of society?

Learn the language, don't recluse yourself within your own tribal community and sure as **** when your out in public don't go around looking at people like THEY are the foreigners...

They don't need special programs to participate, as members of society they're afforded the same right to participate in existing programs
