About 1,000 Democrats in Mahoning County so far have switched their party affiliation to Republican with election officials saying several did it to vote for Donald Trump, the GOP presidential front-runner.

“We are seeing something this election cycle I’ve never seen before to this degree,” said board Chairman Mark Munroe, who’s also the county Republican chairman. “Every day I take phone calls or get voice messages from people saying they’ve been Democrats all their life and they’ve had it. They want to vote for Donald Trump. I’m surprised at the volume of inquiries we’re getting. It’s remarkable.”

Trump will have a great deal of success in Rust Belt states. His economic message resonates with blue collar working class democrats as much as it does with working class republicans. Trump will redraw the electoral map if he wins the nomination. That's not to say I support the guy but while he may lose some states, he may turn Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania red

Perhaps they think Trump will be easier to beat than Cruz or Rubio.

Cruz is way easier to beat than Trump.

This is simply mathematically inaccurate. Cruz is up against Hillary by an average of 1.5, Trump is down by an average of 3.4. Those numbers include large negatives built into the coverage of Cruz, and very few actual negative campaigns against Trump, meaning that Trump's favorables are likely to get worse, whereas Cruz's are likely to remain flat.

Yup. Unsurprising. His strongest supporters have always included a heavy supply of Democrats.

As I have said before, many Trump supporters are white Democrats that are afraid that they will be told to "check their white privilege" when they apply for government benefits.

Perhaps, Trump will have a landslide victory and clean Hillary's clock.

That he may......

Maybe.
But isn't god on Cruz's side?

You will have to pray to God for the answer.....it won't hurt you.....try it.

You are basing your math on faulty, biased, numbers.

The smarter ones I'd say. The dumb ones will vote for Sanders or the pandering Crook.

Under Sanders and Hillary....that is the most likely scenario. Hillary panders constantly for the Black and Latino vote, and history shows neither she, nor Bill, have done anything for those two groups.
Hells bells, the Demo Party has been paying lip service for 40 years and nothing has changed...if anything, it's gotten worse.
You would think that these "Hand Out For the Free ****" groups would smartin up, after all these years........some have, and some are just as dumb as they ever were.

God told me that Trump is a con man and she doesn't much care for Cruz either.

 actually, if you'd bothered to click the links, you would see that it is based on RCP averaging.

This is how Trump starts the general election:

And that's before the Democrats and the Media (but, I repeat myself) spend months absolutely nuking him.

Both of whom consistently beat Donald Trump by several points.

Or the Dems want Trump to win the nomination because Trump loses hands down to Hillary. Opps
Wait until you see the number of Repubs that will drop their GOP Membership if Trump becomes the GOP candidate. Yeah there is a movement alright and it is right down hill.

I don't think "defect" is the right word. There always was a sizable chunk of the know-nothing, protectionist, anti-immigrant Democratic electorate ready to follow a populist demagogue. It is just that in a few last decades they had few real opportunities to express themselves (plenty of demagoguery, but populism limited to an occasional low-budget buchanan); now they've got it. They haven't moved or changed: Trump is moving decisively into their territory.

At least here in MA the pro-Trump sentiment among the blue-collar union white Dems is very palpable, and it has nothing to do with tactical voting. As a matter of fact I know a lefty couple who went GOP to vote for Kasich - because Trump is (a) repulsive and scary, and (b) has a good chance of winning in November. I agree with them on both counts (amazing times!)
