In response to a request from Trump himself, Floridians pledge to vote for him by raising their right hand. One wonders if it occurred to any of these people what they looked like:

Trump Pledge.jpg

Perhaps the first self Godwinization of a candidate in presidential history.

Americans used to pledge allegiance to the flag this way, but after WWII they stopped doing that.

Liberal pundits have called this image "frightening". I'd say that is more like grimly amusing and creepy. It reminds me of all those school children singing about Obama, when we realized there was a really creepy cult of personality going on.

When Trump is elected President do you think he will demand that we pledge allegiance to him? Is Trump playing some kind of practical joke on the US?

'cept of course these are supposedly rational adults...

We still raise our right hand when swearing an oath (those who enter the Armed Forces would know this) This isn't an old Nazi salute but I'd opine they are lazy, mentally and physically- can't hold their arm upright like a military recruit, can't think past the bully mocking tirades.

We live in interesting times... :peace

Why should it matter how the Nazis saluted Hitler? What effect has that on us?

Sieg Heil to the new Fuhrer!

So, here's how we end up with stories like this. Some editor didn't have anything else better to go on, and then this photo lands on his desk, along with several others. He, and a group of writers sit around looking at the pictures, trying to make up a decent reading story around them. In this image, you have TWO people giving an actual naziesq solute...the fat dude that's too lazy to raise his hand all the way up, and the young girl, who looks like she is just trying her BEST to be seen by Trump.

But it caught that editors eye, and he saw the story, and new it would sell. So they went with it. And of course, with nothing more than a headline, he primes his audience to see exactly what he saw. And there you have it.

See these types of stories actually help Trump. I've found that the criticism of Trump has degraded. It's gone from simply stating that Trump's light on policy specifics to calling his supporters stupid to literally saying anything and everything about Trump is related to Hitler.

I had a theory in the beginning of his candidacy that he was trolling the Republican Party for some reason, and that he himself had no idea how popular his candidacy was going to become. It's as if he has tried almost everything to lose support and instead the opposite has happened.

Calling out John McCain for being a POW? Telling his fans he could shoot someone and still not lose support? The racism and xenophobia?

You almost want to think this was calculated, almost as a joke. He HAS to know how this looks to people, especially in recent weeks with the Nazi and KKK comparisons.

What does the Donald have to gain from something like this if he is a serious candidate? Why do this? I honestly believe his whole candidacy is a farce.

i've wondered the same thing, but perhaps his narcissism knows no bounds, and is radioactive enough to cause mass hallucination. however, i won't Godwin. i'll just say what i've said in other threads : this guy cannot be allowed to control the most powerful military that the world has ever known. he's an order of magnitude more unfit than any other modern president, and that's saying something.

A bunch of white people in a group watching Trump speak must be Nazis because a bunch of white people watched Hitler speak..

We better put them all in concentration camps ASAP like we did the Japanese.

Daily Kos, BrietBart, WND, Daily Beast, Drudge, ............. (Name your political blog)

All click bait sites with little value other than stirring the masses.

I honestly believe his whole candidacy is a farce.

You just keep on believing that, ok? Keep believing right up until they call the election for him.

Trump may just be trying to lock down voter commitment so that people don't get fickle and switch to someone else.

He's been cleverly using a lot of psychological tactics throughout his campaign, and this just may be another one.

Trying to portray a pledge as some sort of straight-arm salute is just regular Godwinization, of which there's so much these days.
